  1. The article fails to mention that all these perks are considered income and the exec pay taxes on it. What difference does it make if the company pays them cash or allows them to use the corporate jet.

  2. Why cricket? Just because Mayor Ballard likes it? Where's the community involvement in the sport? What research has been done that says this international sport is "the one" versus other possibilities? I ask because for years I've been involved with the very strong rugby community here in Indy. Rugby the second most popular sport worldwide behind soccer. Given it's already established international appeal, it would seem logical that city-built rugby venues would have a much better chance of constant use AND longterm survival. Rugby is one of the fastest -- if not THE fastest -- growing youth sports in the State. Two-thirds of USARugby-registered players are within a day's drive of Indy, guaranteeing national usage of fields (pitches, in rugby terms) which would most likely preceed any international use. A local rugby group of which I was a participant made a presentation to Mayor Ballard's staff several years ago to promote using rugby as a draw for more international sports activity here in Indy. He never responded. Then cricket?! Makes you wonder if he did any research into what's best for the city, or if he just wants to promote something that he likes personally. So, what is the best bet for the city? Odds would say rugby over cricket! NOTE: Cathedral HS's rugby team was USARugby's High School Mens National Champion in 2012, and nationally ranked several years prior, in addition to being the Midwest and Indiana state champions numerous times. They and other nationally-ranked Indiana rugby teams have made Indiana a national rugby powerhouse. Given the local and statewide support for rugby, I ask again: Is cricket the best bet for Indy's new sports venue spending? P.S. The above information would not seem like something "new" to it's general readership if The Star would cover rugby like it does other sports, major and minor. Why the total lack of anything rugby in the sports page, especially given the incredible successes of local rugby teams? Seems to be some unwritten internal bias against rugby at The Star.

  4. It never ceases to amaze me when some, such as our friend Chris Underwood, write off any legitimate discussion of possible excess as 'Envy'. I often wonder what world one must live in to actually think that Envy is at the root of the criticism. A very very materialistic world, I fear.

  5. Sounds like angie's list could have benefitted from some sort of internet based service that rates various providers of services...anybody know of any?
