Another Pacers dust up

Jamaal Tinsley is back in the news, and not for helping the Indiana Pacers win games.

Early Sunday morning, someone with an assault rifle followed Tinsley and his friends from a nightclub near Lafayette Square Mall to the Conrad Hotel downtown and blasted away at Tinsleyâ??s three cars.

It could have been worse. The only injuries reported were to Pacers equipment manager Joey Qatato, who was hit in his elbows.

Still, itâ??s another front-page story the Pacers donâ??t want. Itâ??s Tinsleyâ??s third brush with the law in the last two years.

Tinsley is having one of the best years of his career. Even so, has he become more a liability than an asset to the organization?
  • Jamal Tinsely is absolutely more of a liability than an asset. Professional basketball is a business. The fact that Tinsley may be having a good year simply means that the Pacers have a better product this year. In the end, however, it's all about getting customers to buy the product. As all good business leaders know, marketing is everything. In basketball, having a good team is certainly the first step - but that team must be one we like - a team that makes us want to buy their jerseys - not a bunch of spoiled gangster wannabes. My terrier has more common sense than Mr. Tinsley.
