Butler University said on Friday that it has received a $3 million grant from Lilly Endowment Inc. to continue operating its Business Accelerator.

The accelerator provides consulting services to mid-size Indiana businesses using the experience of business consultants, as well as Butler faculty and business students.

Since becoming fully operational in 2007, the accelerator has provided services to 45 businesses for 138 specific projects. Past clients have included Café Patachou, Engledow Group and Pearson Automotive.

The endowment awarded the accelerator a $22 million grant in 2005 to get it started. It is led by Lawrence A. O’Connor Jr., a former CEO of Bank One of Indiana, which is now Chase.
