contract to make gas turbine engines for the Army’s OH-58D Kiowa reconnaissance helicopters.
On Monday,
the company said it won an $8.5 million contract to provide spare engine parts for the Air Force’s C-130J military-transport
aircraft.
The U.S. Army’s Aviation and Missile Contracting Center awarded the Army contract on Nov. 6 and
released information about the decision late Thursday. Rolls-Royce officials were not immediately available for comment, but
the Department of Defense said it asked for and received one bid for the work.
Under the terms of the contract,
Rolls-Royce will make 20 to 135 of the engines by Dec. 12, 2012. Work will be performed at its Indianapolis
manufacturing facility, which employs about 4,300—making the British aerospace firm the city’s
second-largest manufacturer behind Eli Lilly and Co.
In May, Rolls-Royce received $80 million
to provide spare engines and parts for the C-130 flown by the Air Force, Marine Corps, Royal Norwegian
Air Force and Indian Air Force.
