On June 15, the “Aiming Higher PAC” will hold a fundraising dinner in Washington, D.C., on Daniels' behalf.
Tickets to the dinner start at $500 for one person and top out at $5,000 at the sponsor level, according to the event’s invitation. The Web site www.politico.com reported on the upcoming event Monday morning as part of “Mike Allen’s Playbook.”
In an item titled “Mitch Daniels tests 2012 waters,” Allen reports that top Republicans consider President Barack Obama, a Democrat, “more vulnerable than ever,” and are searching for a candidate that can unseat him. Allen points out the political action committee’s reception and dinner will take place on the roof of the Willard Building, which is within sight of the White House.
“The invitation urges top Republicans to ‘Help Governor Mitch Daniels Aim Higher for Indiana’s Future’ (Wink, wink.),” Allen wrote.
Daniels also was the subject of a lengthy profile in the latest issue of the Weekly Standard. The magazine’s cover features an illustration of Daniels driving a motorcycle with the headline “Ride along with Mitch … from the Indiana Statehouse to the White House.”
Daniels, who is serving his second term as governor, previously has said he was reluctant but open to the idea of a presidential bid. Reached via e-mail Monday morning, Daniels’ spokeswoman Jane Jankowski said he has not changed that position.
