Climatologist Dev Niyogi said Indiana is drier than surrounding states. Most of Ohio is abnormally dry, but few counties in the Buckeye State are in drought.
Illinois and Michigan have largely normal soil moisture levels. And while much of Kentucky is abnormally dry or in drought, conditions are normal in most of its southern counties.
The southern half of Indiana and other parts of the state are the midst of a moderate to severe drought. Niyogi said some rain has fallen lately, but it's either not enough or has fallen where it's needed the least.
