Franciscan St. Francis Health plans to open a $23 million short-stay medical center in Carmel, creating 76 jobs by 2015, the health system announced Monday morning.

Officials for the Mishawaka-based health system said they will lease and renovate the 89,000-square-foot, three-story Building B at North Meridian Medical Pavilion, off Meridian Street near Interstate 465.

The center is expected to open in January 2012.

According to plans, the first two floors of the facility will offer a range of inpatient and outpatient services, including a six-bed inpatient unit, surgical suites, an imaging center, cardiac testing, physical therapy, oncology-infusion therapy, and a sleep disorders lab.

The third level will house additional clinical and office space for Franciscan St. Francis Medical Group and other independent medical practices.

Franciscan St. Francis Health already operates health facilities in Indianapolis, Mooresville and Beech Grove.
