An entertainment venue featuring a bowling alley, concert hall, restaurant and game room is set to replace a vacant AMC movie theater along 82nd Street at Dean Road in the Castleton/Clearwater area.

The proposed 70,000-square-foot attraction, dubbed Latitude 39 after the parallel coordinate of Indianapolis, also would feature a small movie theater with food service, a main bar with a dance floor, and a sports viewing room.

It would be the second such entertainment venue for owners Brent Brown and Greg Garson, who opened Latitude 30 in Jacksonville, Fla., in January, their company Latitude Global Inc. said in a prepared statement.

The former AMC Clearwater Crossing 12 has been vacant since it closed in 2007, after the theater chain opened a new multiplex at Castleton Square Mall. The 56,000-square-foot building is owned by locally based The Broadbent Company.

The area around the former theater has been a hotbed of development activity, as Kite Realty Group Inc. redevelops the Rivers Edge shopping center to accomodate new locations for Nordstrom Rack, Container Store and BuyBuy Baby, along with a new location for the homegrown Indianapolis restaurant Harry & Izzy's.

Operating an entertainment complex in Castleton is no sure bet, though, as successive owners of The Music Mill would attest. The now-closed concert venue sits in the Clearwater Crossing Plaza, adjacent to the former movie theater. Xscape, a similar family entertainment concept at Lafayette Square Mall, shut down last year.

In the Castleton area, Latitude 39 will face competition: A Dave and Buster's entertainment venue opened in 2009 near Interstate 465 and Allisonville Road.
