Planners say the project in downtown Columbus will have retail space on the ground floor and one- and two-bedroom apartments in the five-story building known as the Cole. It will be built, owned and managed by Indianapolis-based Buckingham Cos.
Columbus Redevelopment Commission director Ed Curtin told The Republic of Columbus that he's excited to see the project moving forward after years of delays.
Jane Hendrickson of Buckingham said expansions by engine-maker Cummins Inc. and other projects make Columbus attractive for developers even though the city isn't generally large enough for such apartment buildings.
The 700-spot parking garage opened in 2009. Buckingham plans to rent the apartments from about $990 to $1,250 a month.
