Sugarland named in notice of stage-collapse suit

The band that was preparing to perform at the Indiana State Fair before a fatal stage collapse has been named as a defendant in a potential lawsuit in a notice sent to the state attorney general.

The tort claim by the family of 22-year-old Jennifer Haskell names the country band Sugarland and its members, agents and employees among 15 potential defendants.

Sugarland and its manager also are named in a tort claim by the parents of Haskell's best friend, Alina Bigjohny.

Haskell and Bigjohny were among seven people who died after the stage rigging collapsed during strong winds before the Aug. 13 concert. More than 40 others were injured.

The Associated Press left a message seeking comment for Sugarland's attorney.

Indiana has received 21 notices of potential lawsuits to date.
