Indianapolis-based CLA will also manage sealed-bid and negotiated sale disposal of goods separate from the Aug. 4 public auction.
"Commercial Liquidators has 20 years of experience in selling high-valued assets at auction, so we felt they best understood the inherent value of the items and they have the ability to secure the best prices," said Gary Gibson, senior director of administration for the Indianapolis Airport Authority.
The public auction will run the gamut of goods, from office furniture and computers to rest-room fixtures to shop equipment. Some items border on the bizarre: a "massive iron Statue of Liberty" and a 35-piece collection of framed posters depicting the life and times of Princess Diana.
Sorry, but the really manly stuff—old jet bridges and aircraft tools—will be marketed to airports and airport service providers through a sealed-bid process.
Proceeds will be put toward projected airport revenue shortfalls, courtesy of the recession and reduced passenger traffic. The terminal and related buildings will not be sold; airport officials will study reuse of the property.
