The Westin and Sheraton City Centre use the new name in their lists of area attractions on their websites. Both say the venue was “recently renamed.”
The Indiana Pacers have not announced a name change. But they have scheduled a special announcement for 10:30 a.m. on Thursday. Pacers Sports and Entertainment registered the CNOfinancialfieldhouse.com Internet domain in March 2010.
Carmel-based insurer Conseco Inc. purchased the naming rights in the late 1990s, and the venue has been known as Conseco Fieldhouse since its opening in 1999.
Conseco changed its name to CNO Financial Group in May 2010, but at that time opted against renaming Conseco Fieldhouse. IBJ reported last year that the decision baffled sports marketing experts, since CNO no longer sells products under the Conseco name and operates no subsidiaries using that name.
CNO Financial spokesman Tony Zehnder declined to comment.
