Super Bowl fans won't need to travel to the Indianapolis metropolitan area to soak up information on the events leading up to the Feb. 5 game.

Twenty Super Celebration sites — selected by the Indianapolis Super Bowl XLVI Host Committee with visitors in mind — include seven located outside the metro area in Anderson, Bloomington, Columbus, Lafayette-West Lafayette, Muncie, Richmond/Wayne County, and Shelbyville.

The committee describes the sites as natural gathering places that provide opportunities for NFL fans to get information about the many activities surrounding the Super Bowl, in addition to lodging, dining, shopping, recreational and cultural activities and amenities. Organizers expect as many as 150,000 visitors in Indianapolis for Super Bowl-related activities.

IBJ reported on the plans of some of the cities in a Dec. 24 story.

The Richmond Palladium-Item reports that he Wayne County Convention & Tourism Bureau has been working in conjunction with the Indiana Football Hall of Fame in Richmond on the eastern Indiana city's Super Celebration project.

The Richmond area is expected to receive an economic boost as Super Bowl fans travel to and from Indianapolis via Interstate 70 and U.S. 40. Many are expected to stay overnight at Richmond accommodations, eat at local restaurants and enjoy area attractions.

"Our area restaurants, pubs, lodging accommodations, shops and cultural attractions look forward to hosting our Super Bowl visitors and offering Super Celebration activities, such as live music, food and drink specials, games, and other Super Celebration-related activities," Mary Walker, the bureau's executive director, said in a news release.

The two official Super Celebration welcome areas are the Old National Road Welcome Center on U.S. 40 on Richmond's east side and the newly constructed Centerville Rest Area on westbound I-70 west of the Centerville Road exit.

Visitors and residents also are invited to participate in Super Bowl-themed activities that are being planned, the tourism bureau said.

In addition to those locations, visitor information for Indianapolis, the Super Bowl and the Richmond area's Super Celebration schedule will be available online at www.visitrichmond.org/supersite.
