Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
Thomas, who operates Capitol City Ford at 8623 E. Washington St., plans to operate multiple auto-related businesses at the Burd facility at 10320 Pendleton Pike, including a used-car dealership called Sharp Cars.
Also planned for the location is a quick-service tire center and a wholesale parts facility.
“The broad range and appeal of the Ford product lineup, in addition to the growth in the overall automotive industry for new and used vehicles is a key to our expanding operations,” Thomas said in a prepared statement.
Thomas said he is planning a renovation of the Capitol City Ford facility on East Washington Street that will cost $1 million to $1.5 million and begin this fall. He also operates three dealerships in Fort Wayne.
Burd Ford closed late last month after 12 years in business, including five at the Lawrence location.
Owner and President Christine Burd took over the business in late 2009 following the death of her 43-year-old husband, Richard Burd.
The couple were well-known for their long-running television commercials in which Rich would say, “Haven’t you heard?” and Chris would finish with, “Burd’s the word.”
