In the same [Aug. 27 Hetrick column] that tells the reader how “…citizens of third-world countries line up for miles, hours and even days to cast ballots…” he also tells the reader that votes in the United States are being suppressed because we close the polls at 6:00? He complains because laws to prevent fraud are being put in place but he’d likely accuse those in charge of not being proactive if the fraud occurred first. He writes that we need longer hours, additional days, online options and more.

I say we need candidates worth voting for. If a voter isn’t informed enough to know where to vote, it doesn’t seem likely that that voter is informed enough to know who to vote for. This country does not need more voters; it needs more informed voters that take their privilege seriously instead of falling for hype and slick marketing.
