An Indianapolis software startup that created an app that helps not-for-profits communicate with their supporters has received $500,000 in funding from Innovate Indiana.

Cause.it is also gaining traction with brands and school systems for its software, said co-founder Gagan Dhillon.

Innovate Indiana is a seed-stage venture fund that invests in Indiana University-affiliated startups.

Cause.it was founded by Dhillon, an IU student, and by Andrew Blejde, of Purdue University.

They hope the product will establish patterns of behavior and generate data that not-for-profits and businesses will consider valuable. They plan to sell subscriptions to the data for $29 a month.

Initially, they launched an iPhone app, but an Android version is soon to be released.•
