Mass transit backers aren’t stopping their education campaign.

One week after the end of the legislative session, where a mass-transit bill was banished to a study committee, elected officials are being invited to learn about the latest in bus technology.

The American Public Transportation Association will hold its annual Bus and Paratransit Conference in Indianapolis next week. Indy Connect has partnered with APTA to provide a free guided tour of the bus display, which features 20 of the newest buses on the market. Tour participants will have a chance to see new technologies firsthand and learn how they could be used in a future transit system.

The plan contemplated by Indy Connect would employ bus-rapid transit instead of rail on most routes. The tours start at 2 p.m., May 6, in the visitors center at White River State Park.
