Veteran local attorney Andrew P. Seiwert will rejoin Indianapolis city staff July 22 as corporation counsel, succeeding Samantha Karn as she takes a position with the University of Indianapolis.

Currently an associate for Indianapolis-based firm Feiwell & Hannoy, Seiwert served as associate corporation counsel for the city in 1988-1990 and 1993-2004.

The corporation counsel is a mayoral appointee who serves as chief attorney for the city and Marion County.

“Andy brings a solid background and understanding of city legal issues from his previous work in the Office of Corporation Counsel,” Mayor Greg Ballard said in a press release. “His many years of experience in city legal and the private sector make him an outstanding choice to lead the city’s team of top notch lawyers.”

Karn is joining UIndy as vice president and general counsel. Karn joined the Office of Corporation Counsel in February 2008 as chief deputy. She was promoted to corporation counsel in November 2009.

Prior to joining the city, Karn worked as a litigation associate at Mallor Clendening Grodner & Bohrer LLP and Barnes & Thornburg LLP.
