A Fishers financial analyst’s crab mofonguito was tasty enough to win him money he needs to open his own restaurant.
Gustavo Perrotta, who is launching Perrotta’s Kitchen, took home a $2,500 seed investment after his Latin-Asian-Italian fusion dish won over a judge panel of culinary experts June 14 at the Hottest Kitchen Entrepreneur Challenge.
His entree—a cup of deep-fried plantains filled with crabmeat and topped with guacamole—beat two other finalists: a ginger pear jeweled apricot pie from the Heartland Pie Co. and a spicy burger from Surisa Cooking that included ginger, galangal, lemongrass and diced green beans.
Perrotta, an analyst at Freedom Mortgage, says the seed money has given him and his wife a “final push to make something happen sooner rather than later.”
