There’s a new reverse-commute bus route connecting the northwest side of Indianapolis with major employers in west Carmel.

The Central Indiana Regional Transportation Authority has launched a free demonstration route from St. Vincent Hospital on West 86th Street to RCI, ITT Technical Institute and retail outlets and restaurants along Michigan Road between 96th and 106th streets.

The new West Carmel Connector ties into IndyGo routes 34 and 28, picking up passengers at a Harcourt Road sheltered bus stop at the hospital. The cross-county connector also can be reached from IndyGo Route 86, which stops on 86th Street one block north of the Harcourt Drive pickup location.

The new connector operates during peak commuting times on weekday mornings and evenings and will make one late-night run. Free to ride, the connector is a one-year demonstration project paid for with a Federal Transit Administration Job Access Reverse Commute grant.•
