TechPoint, the Indianapolis-based group that promotes the state's technology industry, on Tuesday unveiled a pilot program aimed at attracting young professionals to central Indiana while keeping those who are already here.

The program, called IndyX, contains two parts: IndyXPat and IndyXTern. Both are still under development.

IndyXPat will start with a series of events and programs for out-of-towners or expatriates ages 24 to 40 with computer, executive, sales, marketing and startup leadership skills. The first event, IndyXMas, is set for Dec. 27 at the Speak Easy and DeveloperTown in Broad Ripple. Organizers will showcase the local tech industry to the backdrop of dueling pianos.

IndyXTern will attempt to place interns at the city's tech companies. Interns in the program will live together and participate in additional events, such as listening to guest speakers, company tours and special projects. TechPoint has begun taking applications for the program.
