Donald M. Snemis, a partner at Ice Miller LLP's Indianapolis law office, has been named commissioner of the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles by Gov. Mike Pence, the state announced Tuesday.

Snemis will take over the position Jan. 6, replacing interim commissioner Kent Schroder.

Schroder, former BMV chief of staff and chief information officer, has been interim leader since late November. He replaced Scott Waddell, who announced his resignation in October after three years at the job.

“Under Don Snemis’ leadership, I am confident the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles will work each day to identify innovative solutions, serve Hoosiers, and ensure fiscal integrity for Indiana taxpayers,” Pence said in a prepared statement.

Snemis, a Ball State University and Notre Dame Law Schhol graduate, has been an attorney for 25 years. He concentrates on large business disputes, environmental and toxic tort litigation, and product-liability defense.
