A founder of Summit Realty Group has stepped down from his leadership role with the locally based brokerage.

Effective Feb. 1, Bill Ehret relinquished his title as co-managing partner to Brian Zurawski, who joins Matt Langfeldt in leading the firm. Zurawski became a co-managing partner along with Ehret last year.

Ehret previously served 14 years as president and CEO of Summit. The recent moves are part of Summit’s succession plan to groom younger leaders.

“The truth is, I spend a lot of time doing a lot of work for a lot of people,” said Ehret, 54. “I need to spend more time on personal production.”

Ehret co-founded Summit in 1993 with Tom Abernathy, Tom Frank and Pete Quinn. The company since has grown to 68 employees, including 32 brokers, ranking it as the city’s second-largest commercial real estate brokerage, according to IBJ statistics.

Ehret spearheaded the firm’s decision to join the Cushman & Wakefield Alliance and led the launch of its property management division.

Ehret said he will remain a shareholder and will continue as an executive committee member of the Cushman & Wakefield Alliance Program.
