J.D. Byrider, the largest used-car franchisor in the nation, continued its national growth spurt by opening seven franchise stores in seven different states between mid-December and Monday, the Carmel-based company announced Tuesday.

The company added franchises in Wisconsin, Connecticut, South Carolina, Pennsylvania, Arkansas, Idaho and Massachusetts, it said.

The franchises in Connecticut and Idaho are the first for Byrider in those states.

Byrider now has 135 franchised and 23 company-owned dealerships in 33 states with each location employing an average of 20 workers.

The company opened 13 stores overall in 2013 and plans to add at least 10 more this year, it said.

Byrider, founded in Indiana in 1989, escalated growth plans in 2011 when the company was acquired by San Francisco-based private-equity firm Altamont Capital Partners.
