Subscribe NowGreen BEAN Delivery LLC, the online home-delivery provider of organic produce and other natural groceries, announced Friday morning that it plans to grow its local headquarters, creating up to 105 jobs by 2024.
The locally-based company, which operates in Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky and Missouri, will invest $3.84 million in the expansion. Green BEAN, which currently is based on Sellers Street in Lawrence, plans to move to a 5-acre site near Interstate 70 and Emerson Avenue on the northeast side of Indianapolis.
The company, which also operates a 60-acre organic farm, already has more than 200 employees and 10,000 member-customers.
“After entertaining multiple proposals from different municipalities and states, BEAN LLC chose the state of Indiana and city of Indianapolis as its home,” said Matt Ewer, the company’s CEO and owner.
“City and state support, as well as the centralized location of Indianapolis to the markets we serve, were important factors in our decision.”
The Indiana Economic Development Corp. offered the company up to $700,000 in tax credits based on its job-creation plans. The credits are performance-based, meaning until workers are hired, the company is not eligible to claim incentives. The city of Indianapolis will consider additional tax abatement.
Green BEAN, which was founded in 2007, is expanding at a time the online grocery-delivery business is becoming more competitive. In June, Chicago-based Peapod Inc. said it plans to open a 50,000-square-foot distribution center in Indianapolis that will employ up to 238 workers.
