Graeters_ice_cream_logo_225pxGraeter’s, the historic Cincinnati-based ice cream shop, is coming to Indianapolis, franchisee Jim Tedesco, who operates several Graeter's stores in Louisville and southern Indiana, told IBJ. Tedesco declined to divulge the location until a lease is finalized.

Sub Zero Ice Cream & Yogurt, an Orem, Utah-based franchise, is opening its first Indianapolis store, at 427 Massachusetts Ave.

Ruth's Chris Steak House will move from its current north-side location near Keystone Avenue and East 96th Street to the new Ironworks development on the southwest corner of 86th Street and Keystone. The steakhouse will ocupy 16,500 square feet at the $30 million mixed-use development slated to open in May 2014.

• A Thai restaurant is taking the space at 150 E. Ohio St. formerly occupied by Charlie & Barney’s. Details are sketchy: A sign on the door says the restaurant will open in the summer, and an alcohol permit in the window lists the owner as Thai Kitchen Restaurant LLC. Charlie & Barney’s closed in March.

Yats is moving into larger space—2,453 square feet—within the Trail Side building at 875 Massachusetts Ave., up the street from its current location at 659 Mass Ave.  The local Cajun-Creole chain plans to sell beer and wine at the new restaurant, which should be open by July 1.

Yogulatte is set to open a yogurt shop in June at 5412 N. College Ave. next to Fat Dan’s Deli. It has existing locations at 755 Massachusetts Ave. and 1032 Main St. in Speedway.

Orange Leaf has opened at the Metropolis outdoor mall in Plainfield.

Happy’s Pizza has opened its first location in Indianapolis, at 3820 N. College Ave. The Farmington Hills, Mich.-based chain has about 60 locations in six states.

City Barbeque is set to open a restaurant May 9 in 3,648 square feet of space at 1356 S. Rangeline Road in Carmel and another in 5,010 square feet of space at 621 W. 11th St. in Indianapolis in July. The Dublin, Ohio-based chain has 22 restaurants in Ohio and Indiana, including locations in Avon and Greenwood.

Currito has closed within the food court at Circle Centre Mall. Parent company Nicar Enterprises Inc. of Hamilton, Ohio, owes $23,581 in back rent, according to a lawsuit filed in February by Circle Centre Mall LLC.

  • Any update on Circle Centre anchor?
Scott: Any update on progress (or lack thereof) in finding a replacement for Nordstorm at Circle Centre? I just keep seeing closures here and there and Currito just rejogged my memory. Thx.
  • Great Relocation
I'm really excited to hear about Ruth's Chris's moving to Ironworks! That 96th. Street location seems very outdated and not as upscale as what Ironworks will be. Also, I where exactly is City BBQ locating on 11th. Street? When I search that address it appears on the Campus Apartments, but I assume it will be in the strip mall with Donatao's?
    • Graeters!
I often daydreamed about buying a franchise. My picks would have been Graeters or City BBQ in Carmel. Oh well, good to see someone else trying these.
      • City BBQ
It is in the strip mall with Jimmy Johns.
      • Ruth Chris
I always thought that Ruth Chris location was strange. It's very hard to get in and out of, especially if you're not all that familiar with the area. Plus, I just avoid that intersection as much as possible. It's new location will serve it much better, I think.
        • Nordie
I too would like to see an update on what's happening (or not) at the Nordstrom site. It seems to me that's a big reason why Georgia St. is a bust - a lack of foot trffic to bring people in.
        • re: @Brandon
I'm pretty sure getting in/out of 86th & Keystone will be just as hard! :)
        • Nordie's Update Please
Yes - please provide a Nordie's update. With Simon Properties HQ right around the corner, this tragic vacancy has gone on far too long!!
        • Circle Centre
With all the vacancies in Circle Centre, I'm pretty sure Simon doesn't care about the mall anymore and will be selling it soon. Same thing happened with Eastgate, Lafayette & Washington malls. You would think Simon would have more pride in their hometown...
          • Dillard's, please!
We need a Dillard's department store. We also need a Mimi's Cafe as every other Midwestern city has one.
          • Something Different
Dillard's is just like Macy's....If something different like Lord and Taylor upscale or Target downscale isn't going in, they need to re-imagine the space as several mini tenent local boutique market place. Think Indy Vintage marketplace, but with more permanent space for the growing downtown residential population
          • Yats
Kind of bold move by Yats. I mean they have a perfect location right now (best corner in Indy). I really like the fact there is more and more tenants on the other side of Mass (east of College). It will be interesting to see who takes their old spot.
            • Cicrcle Centre
Maria, Simon does not own Circle Centre, the city does.....Simon only leases the mall.
            • Landlord
The Landlord forced the Yats move. He wants to start his own business in that location.
              • IKEA
                Indianapolis needs a IKEA
                • Better for Yats
The current location of Yat's isn't even large enough for them to have an actual kitchen onsite. They cook the food at another location and drive it in and keep it warm in the back. It sounds like the move for Yat's might be a good thing for them if they will have the space to actually cook everything there.
                • IKEA
Bob, if we ever get an Ikea store, you know it will be on the north side of town, not downtown. We really need a second department store at CC.
                • East side
We are so sad our Panera Bread is closing on East Wadhington. It is always busy and a needed and wanted upscale addition to this side of town. A petition is circulating to persuade them to stay.
                  • Daydreamed Buying a Franchise
SF, I have a few franchises you should look at that perform very well. Reach out to me at Velocity Commercial Real Estate in Fishers.
                  • Closing???
Where did you hear that? I really like that Panera... : (
                  • Graeter's
Getting Graeter's in our market is scary. My son is addicted to their ice Cream. They will do very well in the market. Personally my waist line hopes they stay away from Carmel
                  • City Barbeque
Thought I'd let you know that the City Barbeque Carmel as well as the two other Indy locations in Avon and Greenwood are not franchises. They are company-owned. A fourth location will be at IUPUI (company-owned) by late summer.
                  • Simon malls
Maria, Of all the locations you listed, the only one that is Simon-owned is Washington Square. Simon sold Lafayette Square years ago, and I'm not sure if they ever owned Eastgate, but they sure do NOT own it now.

                  1. Yes sir keep cashing those 300K a year checks direct to IMS, while millions disappear from the teams like Rahal's. Guess there wasn't enough ka- ching going around to keep Sarah Fisher in business without their "merger". LOL._____.Meanwhile back in Realville the series with the "best racing in the world" drew what appeared to be about 5000 live spectators ( and probably 1500 of those Target "freebies", and was beaten in the ratings by a series that reportedly consists of "parades" and aired while most people are still sleeping. That will generate those big ka-chings for sure. :-). But, hey, as long as the Speedway gets the cash who gives a damn about the teams?

                  3. If I could actually get the prices...I would do this on my own. We need laws that force provides to publish the costs they will charge. Everyone else gives you the price in advance...except hospitals.

                  4. I was under the impression that fencing is not allowed on a front yard and that on a corner, both sides are considered "front" yards, therefore can't be fenced without a variance. Also impedes the visibility for drivers at the intersection. Am I understanding this correctly? Might be why a fence was not included in the plans and a request for a variance will have to be made?.

                  5. I was a big fan of Cowards and Carrots, which I got a chance to see at the show. It's currently on Kickstarter, but the designer also put out What's He Building in There last year, which got a fair amount of buzz.
