Twin_Peaks_logo_225pxAfter three years of sitting vacant, the former Loon Lake Lodge building in Castleton will have a new tenant. A franchisee of the Dallas-based Twin Peaks chain has signed a lease to occupy the 12,000-square-foot restaurant space and plans to open by the end of the year, said Steve Delaney, a principal with Sitehawk Retail Real Estate who brokered the deal. This will be the first Indiana location for Twin Peaks, which has 36 restaurants in 16 states, including 14 in Texas. Think Tilted Kilt in a lodge setting. “The site was a natural because it was already designed with a lodge theme, and Twin Peaks is a lodge-themed restaurant,” Delaney said. But at the same time, the massive size of the space and the design of the interior prevented the building from leasing sooner, Delaney added. Besides sandwiches, salads and appetizers, Twin Peaks’ menu features green chili meatloaf, rib eye pot roast and flat iron steak. Chip Laughner opened Loon Lake Lodge with a seaplane affixed to the roof in 1998, after the family’s once-booming cafeteria business faltered. Laughner closed the restaurant at Interstate 69 and East 82nd Street in August 2010 after suffering a stroke in 2005. The Laughner family operated the Laughner Cafeteria and Dutch Oven restaurant businesses, the last of which closed in 2001.

  • Gift Cards
Now if only this place would honor Loon Lake gift cards. I received a $50 card as a gift 3 months before they closed and never had the opportunity to use it. :(
  • still miss Dutch Oven!
I still miss hitting Dutch Oven for an occasional lunch or dinner - you could always depend on the food quality for a reaonsable price. It's great this huge Castleton space has gained a new tenant
  • Finally
This is great and I hope Twin Peaks is successful. I hate that such a great location was vacant for so long. Scott, do you know who owns the property?
  • Hooters in Plaid
    See comment title.
    • Building owner
I believe the Laughner family still owns the building.
      • Good fit
While this is a good fit, I hope they know what they're getting into. Indianapolis isn't the best market for a business based on scantily clad women. (See any area hooters.) Having been to a Houston location several times but living here, I know this location won't be up to par with what they are used to. But depending on the lease, they may be able to succeed pretty well. Hooters in Castleton should probably just close now. While this won't compare to the Twin Peaks in the south, it will be run and staffed much better than the Tilted Kilt downtown is. So don't base any predictions on that.
      • Thank you sir, may I have another
Glad to see Breastuarants are becoming as plentiful as froze yogurt places. Agree with Tex, this is an ideal location due to the current set up of the building. Ah, but I still miss the Jack Daniels Single Barrell Whiskey Sauce and the elk bites. Thanks for the mammeries Loon Lake Lodge!
      • House Band
Hey, too cool. Our band here in Indianapolis is called Twin Peaks. We started in 2005. Me and my twin sister. If they have live entertainment, they know who to call!
      • Over/Under On Closing
A 12,000 square foot hooters in Castleton. What could possibly go wrong? How many wannabees has the Ale Emporium watched come and go in the past thirty years? I give this concept 30 months before it closes without notice.

      4. The question is, where could they build a new stadium? It seems in the past year, all the prime spots have been spoken for with potential projects. Maybe in the industrial wasteland area a block past Lucas Oil? I think it needs to be close to the core, if a new stadium is built.

      5. Aldi is generally a great shopping experience. Still, I'm sure YOU wouldn't want to shop there, which I consider a positive.
