An eclectic group of events make my A&E priority list this week. Here's hoping you find something here to help liven up your week.

Secret Agent 23 Skidoo

If you’ve even jumped from couch to couch to avoid the floor because it’s hot lava, than you’ll relate to the fanciful musical world created by Secret Agent 23 Skidoo. Specializing in kid-friendly funk and hip hop, the Asheville, NC-based musician (and Indiana native) made his album debut with “Easy” in 2008. Here, he’ll offer not just a concert, but also a rhyme-writing workshop.

“Buyer and Cellar”

Think you’ve had odd jobs? Scot Greenwell stars in this solo show about the fictional life of a man hired to supervise the real-life basement shopping mall in Barbra Streisand’s home. Jonathan Tolins’ play, a runaway hit Off-Broadway and elsewhere, gets its local premiere courtesy of the Phoenix Theatre.

First Friday

Official IDADA exhibitions participating in this month’s First Friday include Gallery 924, featuring new paintings by Jonathan McAfee focused on cultural icons used in American Apparel ads and the Harrison Center includes “Dreams About Flying, new work by Kate Oberreich.” There’s also a Doughnut Party with live music at Rocket 88 and short film screenings at the Heartland Film Festival offices.

Megan Hilty

Okay, so the TV show “Smash” wasn’t such a smash. That hasn’t kept the star of Broadway’s “9 to 5” and “Wicked” from a steady run of TV appearances from “CSI “ to “The Suite Life of Zack & Cody.” She’s also been active on the concert scene both in cabarets and with orchestras. She’ll be playing here with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra in a program of Broadway favorites and contemporary tunes.
