Friday fun: Celebrating pork

There’s still time to hit the gym in preparation for the Tipton County Pork Festival, an annual excuse to indulge in all things porcine.

Organizers promise “10 tons of great pork” during the event, which runs Sept. 5-7 in downtown Tipton (located at the crossroads of state roads 19 and 28, just north of Atlanta).

Worried about finding it? The Indiana Transportation Museum will fire up the FairTrain on Saturday, making three trips between Noblesville’s Forest Park and the festival grounds. Caboose rides are available in Tipton on Friday and Saturday.

Chops, ribs and rinds abound, along with more traditional fair fare. (Rest assured, the elephant ears are elephant sized.)

This year, the quintessential small-town festival is celebrating its 45th anniversary with a new squeal-inducing attraction: a portable zip line.
