Brown's downtown Pizzology could open early next year

August 26, 2013

aesops tables 225pxIt’s official: Neal Brown’s gourmet Pizzology Pizzeria & Pub is set to take the space formerly occupied by Aesop’s Tables on Massachusetts Avenue.

Brown signed off on the paperwork Monday morning, as expected, to acquire the lease and the assets of Aesop’s Tables, a Mediterranean restaurant that closed Saturday after a 20-year run starting at City Market.

If all goes well, Brown hopes to open in January. Besides taking the space at 600 Massachusetts Ave., formerly occupied by Aesop’s, he’ll also take the space next door, giving him a total of 3,600 square feet.

That’s about 700 square feet more than Brown has at his Carmel restaurant, which he launched in 2009.

“I’m super excited about it; I love Mass Ave,” Brown said. “We’re a neighborhood-type restaurant, so we will try to immerse ourselves in the neighborhood. We’re as much a pub as we are a pizzeria, and we’re family-friendly.”

Brown said he had been negotiating with the building’s owners for more than two months to take over Aesop’s lease.

Aesop’s owners, Kathy Sarris and Bonnie Rose, said on the restaurant’s Facebook page that “we have decided to take some time to ourselves to decide what the coming months and years will bring.”
