ABOUT THIS BOOK:
I have known Mitch Daniels for more than 25 years, and worked for him in various capacities at Hudson Institute, Eli Lilly and in the Governor's Office. I provided some assistance to him in 2011 as he wrote his book, Keeping the Republic. So it was not altogether surprising when the Governor asked me this spring to go through the weighty green binder to see if some of the speeches it contained were worth publishing, and if so, to pick out the best for this volume.

ABOUT THIS BOOK:
Food for Thought: An Indiana Harvest is a book that, through stories and pictures, captures and explores this exciting time in Indiana food and agriculture.
Indiana has a rich agricultural history. But talk to old timers and newcomers alike and you'll find remarkable agreement: Food has never been better in the Hoosier state.
Food for Thought: An Indiana Harvest tells the story of Indiana's food renaissance through the voices of more than eighty people who are creating this fresh and dynamic scene. You'll meet Greg Gunthorp, whose grass-fed pork and poultry are served by some of the best chefs in the country, and Dani Tippmann, reviving the Native American food traditions of her ancestors. There's Lisa Sparks, who says she hates pie but who keeps winning prizes for the best ones in America; Jay Akridge at Purdue University, who is training the next generation of farmers; Jesús Alvarez, the Mexican immigrant known as the Pierogi King of Whiting, Indiana; and Aster Bekele, who has turned an urban farm into a lifeline for kids in need.
Each one of these substantive, first-person stories is enhanced by original color photography, creating a vivid composite view of this extraordinary moment in Indiana history.
If you're interested in good food, Midwestern culture, farming, Indiana, or contemporary trends, you'll find something to chew on here.
Celebrate the breadth of Hoosier creativity that's on display.

ABOUT THIS BOOK:
For more than 40 years I have been immersed in high-profile businesses in disparate industries including broadcasting, publishing, motion picture production, cable television, real estate and banking. My business life is characterized by start-ups and turn-arounds, endeavors for which I, along with many others of my era, was ill-prepared.Mistakes were made — lessons learned — lessons I never learned in school.
Blunders should be expected and then milked for all the lessons they can provide. The best entrepreneurs see dumb moments as inevitable and as an exciting aspect of the wonderful game we play called business.
From my mistakes, I developed principles that when properly considered and applied will protect you from foolish propensities, guide you to create the proper business relationships that make success a higher probability and prompt you to practice entrepreneurism at a lofty level. It is my hope that this treatise will provide entrepreneurs with savvy, street smarts—and wisdom.

ABOUT THIS BOOK:
For 26 years I had the best seat in the house — often in the center of the stage, frequently in the spotlight, always in the clear view of conductors and the audience and constantly amid the passions that come with making good music. This is the story of how I got that seat, of many of the highs and a few of the lows that come with sitting there and of some of the wonderful people who shared my journey. Here are the details behind the creation of William Kraft's Timpani Concerto Number One, the mystery of being honored with a titled chair, the fun of playing on the ISO's softball team and the benefits of studying timpani with Freddie, Eddie and Dan. Carnegie Hall became a special place, conductors from Richard Lert to Henry Mancini earned my respect and I had an insider's view of the major leagues of orchestral music. Away from music, I led another life as a sportscaster, broadcasting games and interviewing many of America's finest athletes. A little of that slips into these pages, too. There was never a dull moment Behind The Copper Fence.

ABOUT THIS BOOK:
TAAP, Treadmill for students with Autism and Apraxia Protocol, published in 2009 was written to share an effective therapy program to help children learn.
Children who receive Physical Therapy services in schools to support their educational programs face limitations. Effective programs face barriers of time, priority, space, equipment and peer engagement. TAAP is a visual-gross motor developmental program that expands expertise to the educational team, Paraprofessionals and families. The program can be performed for 10-minute intervals daily. A treadmill implies smaller space and can be easily moved. Non-therapists can easily follow the program precisely.
TAAP 2, Providing Opportunities to Learn continues the explanations from TAAP. Students improve posture and gross motor skills that lead to enhanced fitness with engagement in recess, PE and recreational sports. Improved visual processing skills promote attention, regulation and organization, eye-hand coordination, imitation, and independence. Students completing performance modules using TAAP have documented increase in sitting posture with visual attention, classroom motor organization for transitions and independent access to learning centers. They have improved learning behaviors of initiation and completion of work, visual tracking and reading as well as performing non-preferred activities.
TAAP 2, Providing Opportunities to Learn begins with milestones of visual-gross motor development. Key elements of development are related educational components necessary for learning. The visual processing system is further related to the motor system to provide insight to methods to improve independence. Case Studies and research projects are detailed in stages to indicate therapy and integration with the educational team.
As a therapist, educator, or family member, read this book and discover the authentic, effective link to visual processing through the gross system that enhances learning.

ABOUT THIS BOOK:
In this long-awaited memoir, Kemba Smith shares her dramatic story, as it has never been told. Poster Child: The Kemba Smith Story chronicles how she went from college student to drug dealer's girlfriend to domestic violence victim to federal prisoner. Kemba shares her story of how making poor choices blinded by love and devotion can have long-term consequences.
In 1994, Kemba was sentenced to a mandatory 24½ years in federal prison, with no chance for parole, despite being a first-time, non-violent offender. Fortunately, she regained her freedom when President Clinton granted her executive clemency in December 2000 after having served 6½ years.
Kemba's case drew support from across the nation and the world. Often being labeled the "poster child" for reversing a disturbing trend in the rise of lengthy sentences for first-time, non-violent drug offenders, Kemba's story has been featured on CNN, Nightline, "Judge Hatchett," Court TV, "The Early Morning Show," and a host of other television programs. In addition, Kemba's story has been featured in several publications, such as The Washington Post, The New York Times; and Emerge, JET, Essence, Glamour, and People magazines.

ABOUT THIS BOOK:
The number of unmarried adult women actually outnumbers the number or married women for the first time in US history, according to the Population Reference Bureau, in October, 2010. Women are now earning more, going to college and graduate schools more, and finding ways to become more independent. Also, according to the Kauffman Foundation, single, divorced and widowed women start more businesses as entrepreneurs than men in their respective categories. This book interviews 30 single women entrepreneurs throughout the U.S. to discern why they started their original businesses, what the perceived advantages and disadvantages are for the single woman entrepreneur, what they each learned from the experience, and what advice they have for the next generation of women solopreneurs.

ABOUT THIS BOOK:
Art In Motion, a special event art initiative brought local and national artists, businesses, community and art organizations, schools and individuals together in an unprecedented way to have fun and celebrate the Indianapolis 500.
Over 80 sculpted and decorated race car replicas were placed in the greater Indianapolis area. Fifty schools participated by creating miniature art cars. Artists submitted 300 proposed car designs for the official "Art In Motion." Artists went "car-azy" with their designs. Race and art fans of all ages were in awe and giggled with delight and took thousands of photos as they walked around looking at the cars, each more creative than the last. The depth and creativity of our artists was well represented in the exhibition. Race cars were transformed into animals, mosaics, landscapes, jewels, and fanciful representations of the greatest race in the world. Several were painted to represent Indianapolis and Indiana scenes. Well known characters made appearances in Art In Motion; Garfield the Cat, Picasso, Ike Behar, and David Letterman.
Art In Motion was produced by the 500 Festival, a private not-for-profit community organization that plans events and programs celebrating May in Indiana and the Indianapolis 500. Most importantly, Art In Motion was about residents and visitors having fun and sharing in the history of racing in Indiana.

ABOUT THIS BOOK:
In his book, Maurer concentrates his artistry on the smallest creatures that inhabit the reef. Don't expect photographs of sharks, turtles, stingrays, and other large animals that roam the deep. Nature is especially kind to these animals whose bodies are resplendent with vibrant color balanced by nuanced hues. The vast majority of scuba divers are oblivious to the opportunity to observe this wonder.
The scope of inquiry of most divers is greater than 10 feet. Maurer brings us to a vantage point of less than 6 inches. This book will be enjoyed by divers, snorkelers, aquaria enthusiasts and everyone with a fascination for nature in the last unexplored frontier.

ABOUT THIS BOOK:
In Recollections of a Mayo Clinic Fellowship at Mid-Twentieth Century, 1948-1952, author Kenneth R. Woolling, M.D. presents the world-famous Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, as it existed during his four-year fellowship there. Here is a remarkable, behind-the-scenes view of advanced medical training at this unique institution. This rare book of memories should be of interest to physicians, medical students, history enthusiasts, and general readers alike.
Within its pages are fascinating vignettes of some of Mayo's medical giants: Dr. Philip S. Hench, originally deemed "the Clinic fellow least likely to succeed," who ultimately stunned the world with his Nobel Prize-winning discovery of the miracle drug, cortisone; Dr. Edgar V. Allen, who, in learning of the cause of a bleeding disorder in cattle, recognized a curative agent for clotting disorders in humans, opening the door to life-saving anticoagulant therapy; and Drs. H. Corwin Hinshaw and William H. Feldman, who, with Nobel scientist Dr. Selman A. Waksman, initiated the treatment of tuberculosis with streptomycin, leading to the cure of the centuries-long dreaded "white plague."
You'll read stories of other outstanding members of the Mayo Clinic teaching staff of that time. Through their exceptional knowledge, skill, and dedication, these physicians provided their students with invaluable lessons for medical practice as well as for life itself.
Also featured is an insider's view of the city of Rochester and its environs. Located in the southeast corner of Minnesota, nestled among pleasant farmlands and peaceful lakes, with snowy winters and balmy springs, remarkable Rochester has its own, distinctive — indeed magical — charm and appeal.
Here is an inspiring tale of an extraordinary place, a true medical miracle, rising from the ashes of a devastating tornado to become an internationally-recognized center of health and hope.

ABOUT THIS BOOK:
Ronald E. Groves, artist and writer, has served as president and creative director of his advertising agency for more than fifty years. He now works in a one-man office as a marketing and advertising consultant and computer graphics designer. He also creates wildlife paintings, and dabbles in photography and sculpting.
This is a creative non-fiction story based on real characters in real-life situations covering approximately twenty-five years of the author's life. The story includes more than seven years spent in the Delaware County Children's Home during the mid-thirties and early forties, living in two foster homes and how this life affected future decisions, his career and personal ccomplishments.
The story also follows the lives of his five siblings when the six brothers were orphaned at an early age during the depression. Throughout the story, reference is made to a silver dollar given him by the Hartzells, his first foster parents, when the Welfare Department took him away from them. Were they abusive? Was something wrong with him? Was he uncontrollable and they couldn't handle him any more? Twenty-two years later, he found the Hartzells in Rochester, NY hoping to find the reason why he was sent back to the Children's Home; a question that had been bugging him since he was eight years old.

ABOUT THIS BOOK:
Children always seem to have an idea as to what they want to be when they grow up. However, in the case of Carolyn Elizabeth Mosby-Williams, her destiny was developing right before her very eyes, even though she did not see it until she grew up.
Unflappable, documents the first 40 years in the life of Gary, Indiana native Carolyn E. Mosby-Williams, a veteran public relations and marketing professional who is currently the chief marketing officer for a global not-for-profit service organization headquartered in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Born into a family already seasoned with age and older children, Mosby-Williams introduces readers to her life in an honest and sometimes humorous coming of age story. In childhood she was prepared for life's twists and turns, including mortality between her parents when both faced battles with cancer.
As a somewhat rebellious teenager, Mosby-Williams highlights the various test of discipline, respect and focus demanded from the late John Oliver Mosby, Sr., her retired father and her mother, the late Indiana State Senator Carolyn Brown Mosby, whose workaholic background passed down to her daughter. Unflappable also reveals the benefits and the angst of Mosby-Williams sometimes living in her mother's shadow and fighting to become her own person.
Along with her strengths, "Unflappable" also follows Mosby-Williams' own challenges and opportunities, including working with notable individuals such as the late Rev. Charles Williams (no relation), president of Indiana Black Expo, Inc., a man that Mosby-Williams called her mentor and friend. With exposure to media, celebrity and corporate America, Mosby-Williams expresses how she unknowingly built a wall of protection around her until and outsider tells her that her foundation is crumbling. Readers will go on the journey and learn of the necessary decisions that will change her life and allow her to rebuild.
The journey will also include a look in side the family's connections with Black and American history over the generations.

- While strategy is as foundational as DNA within the most exemplary companies, why are so many organizations missing it altogether?
- How can I apply strategy in palpable, pragmatic ways to the benefit of those around me?
As a result of demonstrating a more Strategic Mind, leaders will employ a robust language and methodology for crafting, communicating, and implementing strategic aspirations and commitments.
Contemporary business is screaming for equally creative and critical thinkers capable of leading teams and entire organizations. Blake Leath's breezy writing style, intuitive models, research-based solutions, and sticky storytelling make Cultivating the Strategic Mind a stimulating, fun, and immensely credible approach toward developing strategists for our evolving world of work.
If you believe in the fundamental importance of thinking as a differentiating competency for exemplary leaders, it's time you treat yourself to the book you'll want to share with your colleagues — the one written with you in mind and designed to guide leaders on the journey to visionary, creator, and architect of strategy.

ABOUT THIS BOOK:
From Hustlin' To Hallelujah, by Preston T. Adams, III, is an engrossing, real-life story about a black male growing up on the gang-infested, unforgiving streets of Chicago's Southside in the lively neighborhoods near 68th & Justine, and his journey toward becoming one of the Midwest's most effective mentors of at-risk youth.
The September 2009 beating death of 16-year-old Chicago honors student Derrion Albert, which was caught on videotape and broadcast worldwide by CNN, is reflective of the violent urban atmosphere alluded to in From Hustlin' To Hallelujah.
"That young man reminded me of me," said Dr. Adams. "He was an honor student, he loved school, and because of the violence and mayhem of his peers, he's now dead!" Adams said if he could make it out of the raucous inner city, anybody can.
This book is compelling, said Cyrus N. "Russ" White, president and publisher for the Christian Board of Publication/Chalice Press/Lucas Park Books. From Hustlin' To Hallelujah is published by IBJ Book Publishing and is available at amazon.com, prestontadams.com, and Borders Books in downtown Indianapolis.
Dr. Adams is executive pastor at historic Light of the World Christian Church, a 143-year old congregation in Indianapolis under the leadership of Dr. T. Garrott Benjamin, Jr., resident bishop and senior pastor. Adams also is chief executive officer of Project Impact-Indianapolis, which targets youth offenders by providing them and their families with counseling, job training, education and dropout prevention, and CEO of PrestonTAdams International, Inc., an executive coaching and consulting firm.

ABOUT THIS BOOK:
It's All About the Race — it took us almost as long to come up with the title as it took us to write the "hip pocket" book, but in the end, this book provides an introspective peek into the psyche of four successful business people who met and overcame the challenges that minorities face in the workplace.
This book is a realistic approach to working through those challenges. It is our hope that you can use our experiences to avoid the pitfalls that many minorities face as they struggle to be accepted and valued in the business world. We are convinced that, after reading this book, you will realize that an intense work ethic, faith, honesty, perseverance, self-value, and "commitment to right" will always steer you in the right direction.
We found that all it took was "Belief in You!"

Our lives are filled to the max with stuff: iPhone® 4 (and we can't wait for a 5G model), 60-inch LCD flat-screen televisions (though now we need the 3-D version), numerous sports lessons to which we drag our children (you know, because they're going to be future NBA/NFL stars), seventy-hour workweeks, Facebook accounts, Twitter accounts, blogs. No matter what and how much we have, and no matter how many things we try to add into our day, it's never enough. We have more than the previous generation could ever imagine, so why are our lives flooded with devastating amounts of stress, anxiety, depression, and loneliness? And what can we do to change this constant, never-ending search for fulfillment?
In this breakthrough book, McClanahan argues that designing your extraordinary life doesn't require a MBA and can't be found with an iPhone app. He believes we already know exactly what to do. Unfortunately, we struggle to focus on what's important because we are always searching for a quick fix to the challenge of the day.
The good news is that anyone can live their extraordinary life by focusing on McClanahan's five simple strategies. These tactics are simple, straightforward, and apply to everyone from CEOs or retired teachers to stay-at-home moms or high school students.
However, there is a catch. While these strategies are simple, they can be difficult to implement. Minutes after completing any book, we instanly allow our minds to drift and forget what we have just read. (Think of all of the self-help books that you've read. Now think of the ones that actually changed your life.) That's why McClanahan provides clear guidance for ensuring that you stay focused on these strategies so you can actually change your life.

On the evening of Monday, May 8, 1882 a group of pharmacists from across the state of Indiana met in the Bates House parlors in Indianapolis. City and small town druggists alike exchanged pleasantries and engaged in conversation to pass the evening. These men, earnest in their conviction, had come to Indianapolis with the purpose of meeting the following day to establish a State Association of Pharmacy.
In years prior, there had been clamoring from city associations about the need for such an organization. In the recent memory of the druggists of Indianapolis, a motion for such an establishment was "quietly canvassed" during a winter meeting in 1881. It was thought, however, that a convention was necessary for establishing something so important.
The druggists of Indianapolis who met the following winter played a substantial role in organizing Indiana pharmacists and the convention they thought necessary for the task. The group of pharmacists who met at the Bates House parlors had come at the request of the druggists to participate in what would be the founding meeting of the Indiana Pharmaceutical Association. The convention on May 9, 1882 was where Hoosier pharmacists finally united under a single banner.

ABOUT THIS BOOK:
The United States faces myriad problems in the twenty-first century, few of which have easy solutions. In this book author Donald Bogard outlines four problems that the federal government could solve, given the political will. Unfortunately, Congress, as well as the president, do not address difficult issues for fear of offending voters, thus risking losing an election, which would mean lose of power, the ultimate Washington aphrodisiac.
In these pages, Bogard lays bare some shocking facts, large and small. For example, a path to Social Security solvency has been around—and ignored—since the 1980s; our taxpayer dollars subsidize every single ticket to the tune of $100 per flight out of the John Murtha Airport in Pennsylvania; members of Congress can be reimbursed for mileage at a higher rate than the IRS allows for the rest of us; and illegal immigrants can obtain "legitimate" citizenship documents by renting birth certificates, easily obtained from public records. If the president and members of Congress could be inoculated against "Potomac Fever," the virus that leads them to crave power and wish to stay in Washington forever, they could begin to solve these four problems and the many others that face our country.

A Day of Legal Bundles describes a day in which a law student and her lawyer fiance each encounter various legal problems. They find that there are laws and legal procedures that could help them, if they really knew the law. They bungled each situation when they denied the problem, looked the other way, and basically let life — in the form of other people — walk all over them. A Day of Legal Bundles describes their awakening to how everyday laws effect them and how they can get help and lead more fulfilling and prosperous lives as a result. The fact that they are trained in law doesn't make the legal system easy for them. Their admiration for the ideals of the system makes them resolve to embrace it on a practical level with greater success.

ABOUT THIS BOOK:
The Indiana Jewish Historical Society, with the assistance of the Indiana Center on Philanthropy, conducted research on the scrap dealers of Indiana. The scope of this project included the scrap dealers' businesses and families and their impact on communities. The Society attempted to contact as many current and former scrap dealers as possible in order to record their family, business, and philanthropic histories.
The Society was prompted to undertake this project at this time because of a sense of urgency. Many of the scrap dealers who were interviewed are a third or fourth generation removed from the original founders, and many of them are advanced in age.
Interviews were conducted in person whenever possible. To reach families, who have moved, the interviewer, Erin Hamilton, used phone calls, e-mail, and U.S. Mail to gather information. The questions were developed with help from a variety of sources, including one or two people from the scrap industry, and one or two people who have experience in historical research.

ABOUT THIS BOOK:
In this uplifting story of hope and inspiration, a scrappy camp puppy begins her young life alone on a military base in Afghanistan.
Cinnamon was just a puppy when she found her way into the hearts of many of the service men and women stationed on the base where she lived. One in particular, Navy Reservist LCDR Mark Feffer worried for her future when most of the troops who cared for her were due to rotate out of the region. Who would care for her then?
Getting ready to rotate out himself, Mark decided to adopt her and take her home. Along with countless others, Mark helped care for Cinnamon and prepare her for her journey. An experienced dog handler was to accompany her to the U.S. Her story just begins when her rescue from a sub-existent life as a camp mascot goes awry.
Cinnamon was due to arrive at Chicago's O'Hare International Airport at 4:30 on a Friday afternoon, but when Cinnamon's flight landed in Chicago she wasn't on it. No one knew where she was. The dog handler entrusted to bring her home had abandoned her in a foreign country without contacting anyone. Was Cinnamon alone without food and water? Was she injured and in need of medical attention? Or was she lying lifeless on an airport tarmac somewhere? Would anyone ever know what happened to her?
What happened to Cinnamon?
As the story unfolds, you'll relive the amazing true story of the nearly impossible international search and rescue to find Cinnamon. From her lonely start when her mother disappeared, to her endearing puppy antics entertaining the troops, to the extraordinary events that strung together and changed her life, you'll learn how Cinnamon changed the lives of all those who cared for her forever.

ABOUT THIS BOOK:
Trading wingtips for combat boots and managing four children under the age of six, Tim and Tiffany Stoner transform their difficulty into an experience of graciousness, growth and gratitude. "The dialogue drew in our families and supporters and touched so many people's lives," says Major Stoner, who was awarded the Bronze Star during his deployment. "It became our compass and the foundation for what created this book."
Not only does FamilyPrint depict this candid wartime experience with words, but also via the breathtaking photography of Nathan Rowe, who beautifully captures the agony of separation and the utter joy of coming home.
Indiana's Governor, Mitch Daniels says, "When a National Guardsman deploys there are truly two people at war: the soldier who goes to fight the enemy and the spouse who stays behind to face, in many ways, an equally difficult task. Tim and Tiffany Stoner's new book is a useful reminder of the debt we owe to both members of any National Guard Family."
Author Tim Stoner has returned to his position as the director of the infrastructure and security practice at a consulting company. He remains an active soldier in the Army National Guard.
Author Tiffany Stoner is Chief Home Officer of the StonerSix. In addition, she works part-time for Accenture and owns her own photography company, Nathaniel Edmunds Photography.
FamilyPrint is a nonprofit organization assisting the families of veterans deployed overseas. Striving to support both the soldier in harm's way as well as the family here at home, FamilyPrint offers programs that assist with the outbound and inbound transition of the soldier, childcare support during deployment, financial assistance for families in need and care items for deployed soldiers.

ABOUT THIS BOOK:
Claire Foster is finding herself in some pretty exceptional circumstances. Through a string of unusual events, Claire is beginning to understand how and why her beautiful 17th century ancestor, Baroness Elysia von Eschenbach, died on her wedding day and yet lived to tell about it. Herr Achston Otto Hensel — Acky, the Vampire of Salzburg, would relate a different story — if only he were alive. Could Elysia's fiance, the spoiled lascivious Christoph de la Violette and his conniving mother Odile, have anything to do with it?
Only Elysia's beloved aunt, Tante Sophia, and the good priest of St, Michael's Cathedral, Father Ronalde, know the truth — and they're not talking.
Claire with and inner tenacity and strength is able to weave through the myth and the mystery to uncover the truth.
Clair Foster's modern day story is true. Baroness Elysia von Eschenbach's gothic tale is based on the author's research spanning a period of 20 years.

He is not a boat-rocker. He is not argumentative. He is not opinionated. What happens when this reasonable, principled man in the middle is pushed beyond the limits of his dearly-held center?

ABOUT THIS BOOK:
How do we know where our journeys may ultimately take us?
In this inspiring story of love and redemption, we travel to the heart of our spiritual nature, across lifetime and continents, to a place where nothing is as it appears to be.
On the eve of the new Millennium, a suburban Washington, D. C., therapist finds herself on the opposite side of the globe in the midst of a life-altering ordeal. Six months before, a friend had made a curious request: "Will you come to China?" The friend was adopting a baby, an orphan from a rural village, and needed a companion for the trip. She had found herself answering 'yes' without hesitation. Now, miles from home and after an unexpected turn of events, she was once again answering 'yes' without hesitation, this time to the most important question of her life.
As she struggles with the challenges before her, overcome by what she has witnessed, another story begins to unfold. Through dreams and flashbacks, she is taken on a journey to the mythic land of Ancient China, a world and time which parallels and illuminates the present in a strange and unforgettable way.
The voice of a young Chinese woman emerges and begins to tell her own story of love and longing, She is about to become Empress and is herself on the threshold of a life-altering decision. The Empress bares a child whom the Emperor will seek to destroy; a child who could save them all and redeem the lost souls of her native land.
The two stories weave a beautiful tapestry of love, longing and ultimate spiritual triumph played out over lifetimes and continents. Could the two lives be connected, could one life have led to another? Offspring of a Deathless Soul offers the reader a new way of answering the questions, why do things happen as they do? Which leads to another questions: what would one do, if confronted with the question of a lifetime?
