The primary purpose for ratings for Disciple is to act like an insider and make the most infinitesimal ratings into a success.
I have a feeling Mr. Bernard would like to see a big increase in ratings no matter what ratings you measure. Bigger is always better.
And don't get me mixed up as one of the "Indycar and the 500 are going to die by..." prognosticators. You've never seen me post that.
It seems to flounder along quite well. What that costs I don't know either. There have been indications that it cost too much, that is why Mr. Bernard was hired.
Anyone going to argue that point?
All I know is it is not the same as it was years ago. Gone is the technology and the verve that made it all so special.
And both you and Indyman do not seem to ever get it through your heads that most everyone knows CART isn't coming back...and that is never the point. You guys keep stating that, over and over again. maybe that make you feel good, or feel like you all won something.
I just wished that both of you would get around to admitting that CART did nothing to hurt IMS and the 500. I would go so far as to say it helped strengthen it and helped keep its luster bright.
And yes there was a series prior to CART. And anyone willing to be truthful would admit the CART series was more successful than the old rag-tag races USAC used to put on. It was the whole reason for Gurney's White Paper and the formation of CART.
I will speak only for myself. What most true race fans want is an organization that knows a series built around Indy, with open rules like the old days (less spec, yuk!)can be as successful as the big race. And, it doesn't matter if it is run by one entity or a group that represents everyone involved (teams, tracks, sponsors, manufacturers).
But I will admit, recent history and even past history seems to indicate the Hulman/George family might not be the best entity to run it either.
Now, I know you and indyman will run my post into the ground, but there it is.
I hope the drivers are safe in the oncoming heat. I also hope the new cars propensity to tilt to the wall when hitting doesn't cause some major head injuries or worse. I probably won't be watching...but I do want the drivers to be safe.
Cothrel is asking for taxpayer-funded corporate welfare:
"Cothrel’s committee at the Indiana Health Industry Forum called for creating a an early-stage funding mechanism focused exclusively on life sciences, with at least some of its funding coming from the state of Indiana. This funding entity would make both grants and return-based investments."
Where the hell does the state government get the right to tax me and give it in the form of a grant to a private company ?

'You made my point Iman...the world knew that the deathmobile the IRL/IICS was side-by-siding in for the past 9 years was a deathtrap.'
Huh? Does that mean the cars used the other 40 or so deaths cause by racing accidents over the same period of time in other recognized series are also deathtraps, or is this just another of your little cutesy taunts?
'And, because only the Speedway's interests were at stake, someone got killed.'
Actually, it is because Dan Wheldon's head hit a fence post at well over 100 mph.
'And now, everyone turns deaf ear again physical plant is deteriorating, traditions are changed....all because the central scrutinizers at 16th and Jonestown say it's ok.'
Hmmm. Jonestown. Was that not where 918 people died after drinking poison? Classy. You seem to have a juvenile fascination with death.
'When is the next "Perfect Storm" Iman? Who's to blame when Indy gets a 4.0 tv rating this year?'
Why would there be 'blame?' What are your ideal expectations? Perhaps if you could intelligently answer the simple question 'What is the primary purpose of television ratings' you might not have such angst over 4.0 12+ overnights.
'Who do you blame if there's no marketing or advertising of the 500 or the series?'
That is what happens when you look selectively. I have seen marketing and advertising for the 500 more heavily over the past six months than at any point in recent years.
'Oh, I get it...and I know EXACTLY who to blame.'
Let me guess. The dastardly mastermind Tony George, right? LOL
A hometown blog is probably no place for a neutral observer, but somehow google drove me here. As a Warriors fan, I routinely spend May watching other teams play basketball.
Until Haslem's assault, the Pacers were, in my book, the only team out of bounds. From the coach ("floppers") to Grainger (3 techs!?) to Hansbrough ("spirit of the game" to hit opponent in the head and then rake his face?)...
Haslem's play was not basketball. And the play at the end should end the playoffs for Pittman. Suspensions for both I say.
But Pacers need to look in the mirror. To a neutral they seem not innocent but instigators.
