The Fishers Town Council at its Monday meeting unanimously elected John Weingardt as council president and Pete Peterson as vice president.
Weingardt replaces Scott Faultless, who had been president since 2001. He remains on the seven-member council.
Both Weingardt, a partner in the accounting firm of Peachin, Schwartz & Weingardt, and Peterson, regional vice president for Baytree Bank & Trust Co., are new to the council. Both were elected in 2011 and took office last year.
As president, Weingardt conducts council meetings and is the designated spokesman for the council, which represents the town of nearly 80,000 residents.
In 2016, Fishers will shed its status as a town to become a city with an elected mayor.
