Fist-bumping the handshake

The handshake â?? a meet-and-greet fixture since medieval folks developed the gesture to show they werenâ??t armed â?? is beginning to be replaced in some circumstances by the fist bump.

Lightly tapping fists has been a staple of athletes for years, and now it is making its way into business circles. So far, itâ??s used mainly by younger men who already know each other.

How do you feel about it? When does it work, and with whom?

  • I believe the fist bump is only appropriate with people you already know. It is not the proper greeting method for a client or business transaction.

Although I am partial to it myself, for obvious germ reasons, I consider it to be an in-formal way to greet someone.

So leave the fists at home and carry a firm shake to work with you!
