On a seasonally adjusted basis, the pace of mortgage loan activity increased 9.1 percent for the week ended Jan. 15, according to the Mortgage Bankers Association. Rates for 30-year loans fell to 5 percent, down from 5.13 percent the previous week. Fifteen-year mortgages fell to 4.33 percent from 4.45 percent the previous week.
