Here are two opportunities to take an early look at "District 9," the acclaimed new science fiction film about alien refugees on Earth. (More details on the film here, but isn't it a lot more fun going in without knowing much about it?)

I've got passes to a Thursday, Aug. 13 sneak preview at Kerasotes Showplace 16, 4325 S. Meridian St. Showtime is 7:30.

I also have a more limited number of passes to a midnight screening that evening good at Circle Centre, UA Galaxy, or UA Village Park. (I'll be at this one, making a downtown double feature with our IBJ movie night screening of "Serenity.")

Want to go?

Just drop a response here, indicating which tickets you would prefer. It's okay to say "either."

Also, while here, let us know your favorite alien species, whether from a book, movie, TV show or wherever. I'll pull winners at random until the passes are gone.

Good luck.

  • Lurve me some good sci-fi! Would love tix to the 7:30 show (since it's a school night for Stuart...)

Favorite alien? ET, of course... :0)

    ~Kristin
  • Lou,

Count me in for either! I have to say my favorite aliens were the martians from War of the Worlds (the remake).

    Tim
  • Wow Lou!! I would love to do the midnight showing and make it double as well at the downtown UA. Taking my brother who I haven't gotten to spend much time with this summer, and I know he is excited about District 9 as well. :)

My favroite alien species is a dead heat between the Kilrathi of Wing Commander(even though the movie was terrible I enjoyed it) and the Covenant from the Halo universe. Two very well developed alien races in terms of history, backstory, religon, societal issues, etc.
  • Please Please Please would love to go!!! To see the sneak premiere please. Favorite alien would probably have to be the alien from Aliens!!!
  • Please can I have tickets to the screening at Kerasotes.

I think my favorite aliens are the 3 eyed alien toys in Toy Story.
  • Okay, this is a cheesey answer, but the worms from Men In Black... I love those guys!

I would prefer the 7:30 PM screening.

Thanks for providing these opportunities Lou!
  • I'll take either! The Aliens in Sigourney Weaver's Alien movies are by far the coolest and badest!
  • Thursday at 7:30 por favor.

Jabba the Hutt is about the coolest alien I can think of.
  • Does Valentine Michael Smith of Stranger in a Strange Land count as an alien? After thinking about the usual array that generally consists of the monstrous variety, I've sttled on Spock as my favorite alien.

I'd love to see District 9 at UA Galaxy 14 with my 16 year old son.

    thanks for the opportunity!
  • I can't make any of those movies, but have to weigh in on the alien debate. Its a toss up between Wookies and Ewoks, but I'd have to go with Wookies based on size and technical skill. Also Wookies have quite the language as a growl can translate into an entire sentence. Its also great for parties if you can mimic said growl.
  • I would love to see District 9 with a friend, if the freebie offer still stands! Thanks.

My favorite alien has got to be Marvin the Martian, from the old Bugs Bunny cartoons. Well, the funniest one, anyway.
  • D9 Tix for the late showing would be great!

As for alien specied, I have to go with Vulcans. To choose another would be highly illogical, and give me no excuse for typing highly illogical.
  • I'd like to go see the 13th showing.
  • I'd like the late show since I am hoping to win Serentiy tickets. Also, was it you at the Adam screening? What did you think? I thought it was a good portrayl of Asperberger's.
  • I'd love to have tickets to the 7:30 show!

I have to say Predator is probably the best alien ever.
  • District 9 please.

    And... skrulls it is.
  • District 9.

    The Adipose from Doctor Who!
  • I would love tickets for the 7:30 viewing.

My favorite alien is most definitely E.T....having spent my childhood in a small town with a one screen movie theater, it wasn't unheard of for a movie to stay in town for 3 weeks or more. E.T. was especially long running and I think I saw it no less than 6 times AT the theater...many more on VHS, DVD and tv!
  • my favorite alien movie was Invasion of the Body Snatchers... I watched it when I was really young and I don't remember it very well but it scared me really bad and now, as an adult, I'm afraid to watch it again!
  • oh... and I'd prefer the early showing... but would take either.
  • Tickets to the 7:30pm show. And my fav is Uncle Martin from My Favorite Martian. Thanks.
  • Two for 7:30 would be awesome. Either Spaceballs chestburster or the Predator.
  • Fave aliens: the marauding blancmanges from that one Monty Python episode.

And two tickets for the 7:30 show would be great, if any are left.
  • ummm. i definitely have to say the aliens from bill and ted's bogus adventure! They're EXCELLLLENT! :]
  • I love Sci-Fi movies & I was fortunate enough to marry a beautiful woman who also likes it. Tiks to the 7:30 showing would be a great treat for us! Thanks, (hope there are some left) Alien from Predator gets my vote as coolest.
  • I'll take tickets to either!

I like the aliens from Independance Day.
  • I would 4 tickets to whatever showing you still have availability for. I can't wait for this movie! I like the aliens from Mars Attacks, but E.T. is by far my favorite
  • Would love tickets to Thursday's show. My list of favorite aliens is long - I'll top it with THE Alien, the predator and the aliens in War of the Worlds.
  • Would love to go either time.
  • favorite's got to be Men in Black - any of them
  • Oh man, I can't wait to see this movie and would love to win tix. I'd prefer the 7:30 but either would be great.

Ya know, I don't know if I could say all-time fave aliens, but the ones that popped into my head are the aliens from Close Encounters of the Third Kind, just because it's one of my all-time favorite movies, and The Brother from Another Planet.
  • Ooh, scratch that. Just remembered an appointment earlier that evening. My preference, should I win tix, would be the Circle Centre midnight showing for a sci-fi double feature.
  • Would love some tics to Village Park at Midnight - I have been looking forward to seeing this. My husband does nothing but watch SciFi - he could be an alien - hmmm?
  • Do you have any screening passes to ADAM at Keystone Arts for Wednesday , 8/12?
  • Serenity, of course, was awesome. I'm not sure I should admit publicly how
many times I've seen it in the theater. I was amazed how much I still enjoy
seeing it on the big screen.

District 9 was impressive. It gets a bit gruesome and icky. Much to think about
related to how we treat others, w/ obvious allusions to apartheid and the
holocaust, all wrapped up with heart-pounding action that picks up towards
the middle of the movie. Fantastic special effects.
