Police arrested a 30-year-old driver after he crashed his SUV into the headquarters of the American Red Cross of Greater
Indianapolis just after 5:30 a.m. Wednesday. Aaron Diemer of Avon, who suffered minor injuries, refused to allow medics to
draw his blood for alcohol testing. He was arrested for driving while intoxicated and for driving while suspended with a prior
conviction. Police say the SUV was going at least 70 mph when it traveled through a median, over a traffic-light control box
and into the empty building at 441 E. 10th St. Fox59 will have more at 4 p.m.

A man was shot and killed in his car Tuesday night while stopping to talk to two men on the near-north side. The shooting
happened on 39th Street near Graceland Avenue. A female passenger said soon after the victim stopped his car, one of the men
on the street shot the driver in the chest, killing him. The vehicle rolled down 39th Street, struck a tree and a pole, and
almost hit a pedestrian before coming to rest. The passenger was not hurt, and the victim’s name has not been released.

A semi-truck driver managed to escape injury by fleeing his stuck vehicle moments before a train plowed into it. The accident
happened Tuesday night in Hancock County on County Road 400 near State Road 67. The driver was hauling a load of wooden pallets
to a recycling facility nearby when the truck got stuck on the tracks. Weather conditions may have played a part in the crash.

Commuters are still experiencing slick road conditions on some Indianapolis roads. While most of the interstates are in good
shape, many side streets remain snow-covered. The slick conditions led to a pickup truck sliding into the back of a school
bus on Edgewood Avenue near U.S. 31 on Tuesday morning. No children were aboard the bus and no injuries were reported. Fox59

An Indiana lawmaker continues to push for a bill to ban smoking in most public places in the Hoosier state, despite expected
resistance from Senate leadership. State Rep. Charlie Brown authored the most recent smoking ban bill, which was watered down
by fellow House members. They voted to allow smoking in bars, restaurants, gaming facilities and private clubs. Brown sent
a letter Monday to state senators, urging them to remove those exemptions and pass a comprehensive ban. The bill faces long
odds in the Senate.

A pair of shootings Monday night on the west side of Indianapolis that police think could be related left one man dead and
another injured. Police were called to a Taco Bell after a man showed up with gunshot wounds to his head and leg. He told
officers he was a victim of an attempted street robbery and that he fought the suspect for the gun. Later, another man with
a gunshot wound died after being taken to Wishard Hospital. The woman who dropped him off said he was shot near Sheffield
Avenue.

Another blast of winter weather has prompted the National Weather Service to issue dozens of winter storm warnings and advisories
in counties across Indiana. Counties northwest of Indianapolis will see between 1 and 3 inches of snow today. Downtown Indianapolis
and areas northeast of the city are expected to get between 2 and 6 inches. In southern Indiana, residents could see anywhere
from 5 to 10 inches of snow. According to Steven Hardiman with the Indianapolis Department of Public Works, the city’s
snow-removal force is now operating at full capacity with 80 drivers working to clear local roads. Fox 59 will have more at

Indiana’s Salvation Army disaster team arrived back in Indianapolis Sunday after spending a month in earthquake-ravaged
Haiti. Team members were originally expected to return two weeks ago, but their services were in such high demand that they
extended their stay. So far The Salvation Army has provided more than 2 million meals and medical care to more than 16,000
survivors in Haiti.

Now that they’ve cleared much of the snow, Indianapolis Department of Public Works crews are stashing the plows and
switching to pothole patrol. City officials say they attempt to repair the gashes in streets within two days of receiving
a complaint, but the latest snowfall has caused delays. Drivers can file claims with the city for pothole-related damages.
For example, motorist Delisa Brown told Fox59 that her car needed $3,500 in repairs after a pothole incident and that she
has asked the city to refund her. Fox59 will have more at 4 p.m.

Metro police are looking for a man accused of robbing a local Radio Shack store on Thursday. Surveillance video shows that
it was anything but the perfect crime. The thief pulled a gun inside the store on East Washington Street, and when the clerk
handed him cash, he dropped it all over the floor. The suspect scrambled and tried to exit the store, but instead fumbled
again, dropping the money outside. Witnesses say the thief took off in a silver Nissan Altima with front-end damage.

The Tippecanoe County Coroner is issuing a warning to residents who still must shovel snow. In the past week, three people
in the Greater Lafayette area have died while shoveling snow. All the victims were between 50 and 80 and had underlying heart

Frigid temperatures are being blamed for the death of southern Indiana man. Richard Glotzbach, 51, was found dead behind a
New Albany shopping center Wednesday morning. Investigators said he probably lost his balance and fell down. Unable to get
back up, he later died of hypothermia, police proposed.

Thieves broke into dozens of cars parked at two hotels on Indianapolis' west side early Thursday morning. Police say they
hit at least 30 cars at Crowne Plaza Hotel near Indianapolis International Airport, and about 20 other vehicles at a nearby
hotel. The break-ins happened between midnight Wednesday and 4 a.m. Thursday.

Investigators are looking for a bold and calculating thief who broke into a Zionsville church Sunday night and stole a safe
that was bolted to the ground. Representatives from Advent Evangelical Lutheran Church do not have an exact count of how much
money was inside the safe. Surveillance video caught the burglar Sunday around 10 p.m. stealing the safe and taking it away
in a minivan.

An Indianapolis police officer was treated on the scene after he lost control of his squad car Wednesday morning and slid
into the path of an SUV on West 56th Street in front of the Colts training facility. The driver of the SUV had minor injuries
and was taken to the hospital. The crash was just one of many this morning as drivers traveled slick roads. Conditions are

A central Indiana community is mourning the death of a teenager who was killed Tuesday in a car-train crash caused by icy
roads. Titus Justus, 17, died when his truck slid into the path of a train in Fairmount. Justus was a senior at Mississinewa
High School and played on the varsity basketball team.

The shooting death of a Hamilton County teenager is being called a tragic accident. Carson Wallace, 16, was shot in the chest
Tuesday when a gun went off at his family’s home in Cicero. Wallace was in the garage with his 14-year-old brother when
the gun discharged. He was rushed to Methodist Hospital, but died during surgery.

An Eastern Hancock County school teacher has been suspended with pay and charged with battery. Middle school teacher Steve
Hilton is accused of inappropriately touching seven of his young students. The girls, ages 11 and 12, told investigators that
Hilton would cause them pain by pushing on their pressure points. They say he touched their buttocks and even turned one upside
down in a trash can. Hilton was released from jail Tuesday after posting a $1,500 bond.

Plows are out in central Indiana, clearing the streets of snow that clogged Tuesday morning's rush hour. The heaviest snow
has stopped for the day, but another 1 inch to 3 inches are expected tonight. In Indianapolis, 83 crews are working around
the clock to remove snow and spread chemicals on the streets. However, the wind will pick up later, causing visibility to

No one was hurt after an Indianapolis International Airport Police officer returned gunfire on two men in a west-side neighborhood.
The officer said the men in a pickup truck shot at him as he was visiting a relative on Cossell Road. Investigators say the
airport officer was standing outside about 11 p.m. Monday when the men shot at him. He used his personal firearm to fire back.
No one was hit.

The president and CEO of the Indiana University Alumni Association is resigning after three years in the position. Thomas
Martz gave no reason for his resignation, which is effective at the end of February. A university spokesperson says the process
for hiring a replacement will start in a few weeks.

Indianapolis firefighters battled a pair of fires Sunday night that displaced almost 20 residents. The first fire was reported
just before 9 p.m. at Avalon Lake Apartments on the city's northeast side. A male resident returned home from the store
to find his apartment in flames; he had been heating grease on the stove. Three other apartments also were damaged, and nine
residents of the apartment complex now are in temporary housing. The second fire call came in around 10:20 p.m. Sunday at
a private residence on Indianapolis' east side. A woman came back to her Dewey Street home after a Super Bowl party and found
one of the bedrooms ablaze. Another woman who lives in the house says she left a candle burning and thinks one of her dogs
knocked it over. The four adults and six children who live in the house were not home when the fire started, but two pit bulls
died.

The banks of the Wabash River will be getting a facelift soon. The Wabash River Enhancement Corp. is looking at ways to preserve
the river. Plans could include trail development and improving water quality. Also on the drawing board: adding bridges for
walking and biking as well as a great lawn along the shoreline south of West Lafayette.

Police made a gruesome discovery in a Bartholomew County home after neighbors noticed mail piling up outside the house.
Investigators found Shaundra Hartner, 72, and Greg Thomas, 51, dead inside a home in Taylorsville. Police
recovered a gun at the scene and say they think the deaths may be the result of a murder-suicide.

Johnson County authorities say that a former Indianapolis youth volunteer already in jail awaiting trial on child molestation
charges tried to hire a hitman to kill witnesses, including teenagers and an infant. On Thursday, new charges were filed by
the Johnson County prosecutor against 30-year-old Jonathan Hartman, who was arrested in April 2009. The youth volunteer at
a Greenwood Salvation Army church allegedly had sexual relationships with three teenage girls over the course of several years.
Authorities now say that one of Hartman's former fellow inmates reported that Hartman tried to hire him to kill witnesses
who could testify against him. Hartman will be in court next week to face the new charges. Fox59 will have more at 4 p.m.

The basic idea of nice apartments with parking and retail is a good one, but this design seems overwhelmingly big/tall for Broad Ripple. The size could be disguised a bit with lots of big trees/landscaping, but the complex is too massive to blend in easily. That section of canal between College and Westfield will also need to be upgraded on both sides. Nice apartments facing onto a nice promenade with shade trees/plantings could bring together the canal towpath/Monon recreation, the outdoor seating at existing restaurants, and this project into something that upgrades the whole area. A plan for the whole stretch makes more sense than facing nice new housing onto what looks like a ditch. Is there a plan? Does the public have input? Who pays? The apartment idea seems to be reasonable, but Whole Foods is not a good idea for appropriate retail. Besides the store being physically too big, there are already Fresh Market at 54xCollege and Whole Foods in Nora for fancy groceries. Good Earth and Kroger are within walking distance of the Shell site. There are at least 7 grocery stores within a safe bike ride. Whole Foods would add nothing but traffic congestion. This design is on the right track, but there needs to be more work done to ensure that it blends in with and enhances the existing community. A project that large will set a tone for that whole part of town. It could be a real asset, but only if done right.
I did not move to Zionsville to live in Carmel. This and the subsequent developments to follow will ensure a vanilla uniformity of strip malls and apartment buildings as we seek to bring our town down to the least common denominator. We were warned before recent elections that pro-development council members would make sure their friends (landowners and developers) would be able to make their millions off of the exploitation of Zionsville. Why in God's name would we sell out the best preserved small town in the State of Indiana?
