Three people were killed and three others injured in a single-vehicle crash Sunday afternoon east of Anderson. Investigators believe the sport-utility vehicle was speeding south on County Road 600 West near Daleville about 4 p.m. when the driver hit a rise in the road and lost control. The SUV became airborne, struck a retaining wall, and flipped for a couple of hundred feet before stopping. Killed in the crash were driver Lisa Case, 46, of Anderson, and passengers Kent Kalley, 46, and Andrew Lackey, 12, both of Yorktown. The three other passengers, all 13, were in stable condition.
 

Greenwood police say thieves are breaking into cars during broad daylight and taking valuables. The break-ins are occurring outside of businesses on State Road 135. Police said the thieves break car windows and takes purses, lottery tickets or anything left out in the open that can be grabbed quickly.

After a standoff at a Lawrence hotel that lasted nearly six hours, a murder suspect was hospitalized in critical condition Thursday night with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. Police cornered 41-year-old Brian Fegley about noon at the Value Place Hotel near 82nd and Shadeland Avenue. Fegley was accused of a shooting that killed Eli McAfee, 33, at the Free Spirit Lounge in Castleton earlier in the day.

Police arrested a 19-year-old driver following a high-speed chase and crash in Greenwood on Friday morning. Jimmy Roger Smith is accused of stealing a 2005 Acura from a garage in a Center Grove home sometime before 4 a.m. Greenwood police saw the vehicle fleeing the scene of another residential break-in at about 5:25 a.m. and gave chase. The pursuit ended a few minutes later when Smith’s vehicle, which reached speeds topping 100 mph, left the road and went airborne into an office building near Howard and Fry roads. Smith, who was apprehended after a brief foot chase, told police he thought he was overdosing on methamphetamine.

Police throughout Indiana plan a 17-day effort to crack down on drunken driving starting Friday. The campaign, called “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over," is aimed at preventing drunk driving during March sporting events and St. Patrick's Day. The effort runs through March 24. State troopers plan sobriety checkpoints and saturation patrols. Indiana had nearly 6,300 alcohol-related crashes last year with 97 fatalities.
 

School buses were involved in three crashes in the city Thursday morning, including one involving injuries. Ambulances took four children to Riley Hospital for Children after an Indianapolis Public Schools bus was involved in a crash at about 8 a.m. on the northeast side. The students suffered what are believed to be minor head injuries. A Pike Township bus carrying two students collided with a car on the northwest side, and another IPS bus crashed on the northeast side. No injuries were reported in those crashes.
 

Indianapolis police are trying to determine who killed a local man, possibly in front of his children. The body of David McMiller, 28, was discovered Wednesday afternoon in his Lynhurst Park Apartment on the southwest side. Investigators believe the victim had been shot or stabbed. His three children, ages 4 and under, were home at the time of the incident.

One man was killed and three others injured in a shooting Tuesday about 8 p.m. at Wellington Apartments on the east side of Indianapolis. The dead man was identified as Michael Baker, 25, a resident of the apartments near East 16th Street and Interstate 465.
Two other men were taken to Wishard Hospital, with one in critical condition and the other in serious condition. The fourth man was treated and released at the scene. Police are looking for a dark vehicle with two males seen leaving the scene.
 

Two drivers had to be extricated from their vehicles and rushed to the hospital Wednesday morning after a two-car accident in Noblesville at the intersection of State Road 37 and Field Drive. Southbound 37 was closed from about 9:45 to 10:45 for crash cleanup. The victims were taken to Riverview Hospital in unknown condition. State troopers reported about a hundred weather-related accidents in central Indiana from 6 p.m. Tuesday through this morning.
 

An Indianapolis man was taken into custody just after 7:30 p.m. Monday after he crashed his sport-utility vehicle into Forest Ridge Apartments on the far north side of the city. Terry Rowe, 53, was heading west on Wheatgrass Way before he drove into four apartment units, causing an estimated $50,000 in damage. Rowe and numerous residents were uninjured. Police didn’t cite a reason for the crash.
 

A driver traveling north in the southbound lanes of Interstate 65 in Johnson County died Monday night after he crashed his van into a semi. The fiery accident shut down I-65 between Franklin and Edinburgh from about 10:30 p.m. to 1 a.m. Lee Wayne Oliphant, 67, of Indianapolis died in the crash. The 59-year-old semi driver suffered minor injuries.
 

Two boys were arrested Tuesday morning in connection with two house fires in the 1300 and 1400 block of North Olney Street on the city’s northeast side. The first fire broke out at about 1:30 a.m. and caused an estimated $25,000 in damage. The second occurred at about 6 a.m. and created $35,000 in damage. Both homes were vacant and the fires appeared to be intentionally set. The boys also are suspected of causing a dumpster fire.
 

An overnight house fire in the 300 block of South Holmes Avenue on the near-west side of Indianapolis left a man hospitalized with serious injuries. Two other people living inside the home and two living inside a converted garage escaped without injuries. Police are investigating a cause for the blaze, which broke out about 3:30 a.m.

A man and a woman were in stable condition early Monday after a shooting incident at a west-side Indianapolis gas station. Police said they found a male with a gunshot wound to the head inside a car several blocks from the Speedway Gas Station near West 34th Street and Lafayette Road. The woman was found at the station with a wound to the shoulder. The shootings took place about 2:15 a.m.

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch for counties north of Indianapolis, including Hamilton, Madison, Tipton, Howard and Delaware. The storm could bring as much as 6 inches of snow, sleet and freezing rain from late Monday to early Wednesday. Areas farther north could see even more precipitation.

A Johnson County jury on Thursday found 34-year-old Shawn Corbally guilty on eight counts of rape, burglary, criminal confinement and criminal deviant conduct. He faces a maximum sentence of 340 years for a brutal attack against a Greenwood woman in her apartment in July 2012. The woman, whom Fox59 has chosen not to identify, said that confronting Corbally in court was difficult but necessary. “I’m just so glad this cretin is off the streets and can’t hurt anyone else,” the woman said. Corbally’s sentencing is scheduled for March 18.

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police officials plan to meet with prosecutors Friday to determine what charges will be filed against a woman who struck her fiancé with her vehicle. Police were already on the scene at That Place Bar near South Emerson Avenue and West County Road around 2 a.m. Friday for reports of a disturbance. In an accident apparently not related to the initial call, a 40-year-old woman allegedly struck her 40-year-old fiancé with her vehicle in the bar’s parking lot. The man suffered a serious head wound and died after being transported to Wishard Hospital. The woman was detained for blood testing because investigators suspected that alcohol was involved.

The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office said Thursday that no charges will be filed against the driver involved in a deadly Feb. 16 collision with an ambulance downtown. Indianapolis paramedics Timothy McCormick, 24, and Cody Medley, 22, died from injuries sustained when their ambulance was struck by a car that failed to stop for a flashing red light. The driver of that car, 21-year-old Jade Hammer, admitted to consuming alcohol before the crash, but her blood-alcohol level was found to be 0.038 percent, well below the legal limit of 0.08 percent. Curry said the Indiana Supreme Court has held that failing to stop for a red light “does not constitute recklessness as a matter of law.”

Several Brownsburg residents expressed concerns Wednesday about an indoor shooting range that could open near their homes. Plans for the 100,000-square-foot facility at 462 Southpoint Circle have not been submitted to the Brownsburg Zoning Board, but homeowners turned out for an informational meeting. Residents said they were worried about safety and the impact the range would have on nearby homes’ values. The project could be up for zoning approval as soon as April.
 

Investigators are trying to determine what caused a fire that quickly spread through a north-side home Wednesday afternoon, killing a male resident. Firefighters called to the 7500 block of Brackenwood Circle at about 4 p.m. found a man in his mid-60s unconscious inside, suffering from with apparent burns and smoke inhalation. He died late Wednesday at St. Vincent Hospital. Damage to the home is estimated at $100,000.
 

Fifteen students were evaluated by medical personnel Wednesday morning after their school bus filled with discharged gas from a fire-extinguisher. Authorities said the fire extinguisher accidentally went off when the bus was on the city’s northwest side, near 62nd Street and Lafayette Road. A Pike Township school bus eventually drove the students to school.

A man suspected in as many as two dozen business burglaries is behind bars. Kenneth Ward, 54, was arrested this week after an investigation involving police from Indianapolis, Speedway, Mooresville, Noblesville, Lawrence and other communities. Working on a tip, investigators say they saw Ward break into a bookstore and a Chinese restaurant near Interstate 465 and U.S. 31 South on Sunday night. Police say Ward typically uses a crowbar to break into a retail business, grab the cash register and flee.

A fire at the oldest Catholic church in Indianapolis might have been started during an attempted burglary, investigators say. The small fire in the sanctuary of 175-year-old St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church broke about 4 a.m. and caused an estimated $15,000 in damage, mostly from smoke. Investigators are trying to determine if anything was stolen.

Detectives are searching for two armed men who robbed an Ameriana Bank branch in Carmel. Witnesses said the men wore ski masks and showed them handguns when they entered the branch at 3975 W. 106th St. at 10:45 a.m. Monday. The pair got away on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash. Police says it’s the first bank robbery in Carmel since 2010.
 

Hundreds of trees on the northeast side of Indianapolis will be removed over the next two months because of an emerald ash borer infestation. The metallic green beetle has destroyed more than 50 million ash trees since its discovery in the United States in 2002. The bug has been found in 59 Indiana counties. Almost 500 trees will be removed along Sargent Road between 96th Street and Fall Creek Road. Another 25 will be taken down along 91st Street near Allisonville Road.
