The Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra has hit its contractually obligated fundraising goal (see story here)

So now what?

Well, now (if it is within your means), you should get tickets to a show.

Wait. What's that? You aren't sure what show to go to?

"I've never been to a classical concert and need a place to start."

Then get thee to the March 22-23 performance of Beethoven's 5th.

"Strings is my things"

And apparently grammer isn't. But that's okay. Pick up tickets to the "The Romantic Violinist" featuring soloist Daniel Hope.

"My taste is on the operatic side"

Then don't miss opera great Thomas Hampson, performing Feb. 22.

"I love a piano"

Then you'll want to hear Behzod Abduraimov playing Chopin March 1-2.

"Anything with a little more edge?"

Hear what happens March9 when the ISO teams up with its new partner, the New Amsterdam artist group and label for a concer of music you've never heard before.

"Yes, but can you dance to it?"

You can when Dance Kaleidoscope joins the ISO for a family' concert March 10.

"How about a drink with that?"

Samples of drink--and food--are served before the Happy Hour concert March 7.

"I want to make my kid feel like a slacker."

Then the Feb. 24 performance of the New World Youth Orchestra is for you.

"You know, I don't really like classical music..."

No worries. Check out the Feb. 8-9 performance "The Best is Yet to Come: The Music of Frank Sinatra and More" featuring Montego Glover from Broadway's "Memphis."

"Even Sinatra is more esoteric for me."

Okay, then, go to the ABBA tribute March 15-17.

"To be honest, I'm kind of broke."

Then get a ticket to the free annual "Celebration of Black History" concert Feb. 5.

  • Stravinsky???
As a classical musician, I find it disturbing that Mr. Harry fails to mention Stravinsky's The Rite of Spring on April 12-13--easily the highlight of this season.
    • Considering readers are likely american...
It might be best to highlight works that people, particularly Americans, can relate to such as the May 31 concert highlighting Bernstein, Bolcom, and Gershwin. Expecting a concert newbie to enjoy listening to beethoven's 5th or generally anything that old is bound to turn them away from other concerts and hurt the ISO's sales.
    • No need to be disturbed
No need to be disturbed, KPE. There's plenty to tout in April and beyond, including the Rite. My hope was to get people considering concerts happening in the next two months. The season also includes the American Pianists Association finals, a Gershwin show, Time for Three, and much more. Thanks for reading (and caring).

    1. I had read earlier this spring that Noodles & Co was going to open in the Fishers Marketplace (which is SR 37 and 131st St, not 141st St, just FYI). Any word on that? Also, do you happen to know what is being built in Carmel at Pennsylvania and Old Meridian? May just be an office building but I'm not sure.

    2. I'm sorry, but you are flat out wrong. There are few tracks in the world with the history of IMS and probably NO OTHER as widely known and recognized. I don't care what you think about the stat of Indy Car racing, these are pretty hard things to dispute.

    3. Also wondering if there is an update on the Brockway Pub-Danny Boy restaurant/taproom that was planned for the village as well?

    4. Why does the majority get to trample on the rights of the minority? You do realize that banning gay marriage does not rid the world of gay people, right? They are still going to be around and they are still going to continue to exist. The best way to get it all out of the spotlight? LEGALIZE IT! If gay marriage is legal, they will get to stop trying to push for it and you will get to stop seeing it all over the news. Why do Christians get to decide what is moral?? Why do you get to push your religion on others? How would legalizing gay marriage expose their lifestyle to your children? By the way, their lifestyle is going to continue whether gay marriage is legalized or not. It's been legal in Canada for quite a while now and they seem to be doing just fine. What about actual rules handed down by God? What about not working on Sundays? What about obeying your parents? What about adultery? These are in the 10 Commandments, the most important of God's rules. Yet they are all perfectly legal. What about divorce? Only God is allowed to dissolve a marriage so why don't you work hard to get divorce banned? Why do you get to pick and choose the parts of the Bible you care about?

    5. Look at the bright side. With the new Lowe's call center, that means 1000 jobs at $10 bucks an hour. IMS has to be drooling over all that disposable income. If those employees can save all their extra money after bills, in five years they can go to the race LIVE. Can you say attendance boost?
