For me, the weekend started with Thursday night's out-there benefit for NoExit Performance at the White Rabbit Cabaret, which included a wonderful, alleged magic act from Drosselmeyer (Ryan Mullins), some beautiful dancing, and a preview of what promised to be a really interesting 2013/14 season for the upstart company (which still has a production to go this season).

Also on the Memorial Day weekend agenda for me: Treks to two old favorites, Conner Prairie and Rustic Gardens. Plus the new Star Wars exhibition at the Indiana State Museum. More to come on most if not all of those in future columns and blogs.

What about you? Did you get to the any of the Indy 500 activites? Check out "Star Trek" at your local multiplex? Catch an Indy Parks concert?

What did you hear, see or do over the long weekend?

Your thoughts?

  • What a weekend!
Great fun at the parade. It was nice to have great weather and not be miserable. I really like having the drivers spread throughout the parade, rather than at the end, it was years ago. Sunday it was party with friends and listen to the race, then off to the Pacers-Heat game. Bankers Life was lively, just didn't have the right results. Try again tonight!

Great race !Guests from Austin,TX LOVED it! Carb Day Firestone Race fun .Could not hear Poison;terrible or nonexistent sound system. Not my kind of music, but two of the four of us like them. Enjoyed awards banquet on t.v. Mon. night.
  • Great weekend
Our family enjoyed both the parade and the race. The city looked great and the atmosphere was fun as usual for both. I would encourage the 500 Festival Committees to seek ways to increase the number of floats and bands in the parade as it felt a little sparse. While not a big draw for us; more celebrities in the parade could draw more interest in the parade. There were several known actors/actresses/entertainers at the Snake Pit Ball or race that were not part of the parade; this seems like a missed opportunity. Regardless, we enjoyed the parade and our thanks to all that help make this event successful each year.
  • Good Weekend
I attended carb day and the race this year. Carb day was great, weather was super and the finish of the race on carb day could not have been better. Poison might have been good if I could have heard them. Still trying to figure out how some sort of sound check would not have identified there was a problem. We were half way back in the crowd and could barely make out the song that was being played. People 100 yards further back could hear absolutley nothing, I am sure. I am not a huge race fan but love the beginning of the race. Wish I had been there to see it all rather than waiting an hour and 15 minutes in line. When we did finally get to the gate they were not even looking at tickets, coolers, or anything. I think they realized they really messed up some peoples' days. I understand the need for increased security in light of the Boston Marathon but there could have been better planning. Indy in May is a great place to be.
