Scoop: 'Office' worker to perform at Cabaret

On TV, she's the former Dunder Mifflin Vice President and awkward ex-lover of bumbling Michael Scott.

But Melora Hardin has also starred in Broadway's "Chicago" and has lately made a strong name for herself musically in cabaret club circles. Her new CD, "All the Way to Mars," includes her own songs as well as takes on Broadway songs familiar (the ubiquitous "I Dreamed a Dream") and surprising ("Raise the Roof" from "The Wild Party"). Hardin will be here April 10-11.

She's probably the most familiar face on the yet-to-be-announced Cabaret at the Columbia Club schedule. The Cabaret, settling into its new Monument Circle digs, will also present Amanda McBroom, the singer/songwriter best known for writing "The Rose," on March 5-6. May 21-22 brings back Broadway star Liz Callaway, who offered an outstanding musical set last season.

Cabaret captain Shannon Forsell will offer a solo Valentine's concert Feb. 12 and return in late March for a shared show with local favorite Brenda Williams.

There's more, too--including a late night, low-cost open mic series that Forsell hopes will attract the best voices in the city. Brent Marty will be hosting.

    Sounds like NOISE, the free cabaret Brent Marty already hosts... "There's more, too--including a late night, low-cost open mic series that Forsell hopes will attract the best voices in the city. Brent Marty will be hosting."

    Actually, NOISE isn't hosted by Mr. Marty...it's hosted by Todd Hawks. Both Todd and Brent are amazingly talented gents, and I look forward to seeing what they both have in store!

    Saw the prices for the Amanda McBroom show - more expensive than the Conisseur Room - I hope that isn't the case for all of the shows in the new space.

  1. This super bowl planning has shut out local businesses that were expecting a bump in business. Instead of spreading the festivities around town what we got was hordes of people in one place and a lot of vacant buildings turned into businesses for one week taking away customers who might have spent money in year round businesses. Thanks for all the hype leading up to this event but you wont get my support next time around unless some changes are made to include the local establishments. Now get out there giants and do to the patriots what the city did to us . Shut them out.

  2. I went this evening and the great thing about the zipline is each rider is a performer. Those that hang upside down the entire ride get huge cheers. And the sound of the ride is way cool. Multiple riders all doing acrobatic stunts is spectacular. It should be called the Warhol ride. Add in the ability to score via phones and you have the Olympics. (the zoo ought to do one of these over the river)

  3. Actually, completely bypassing Bloomington isn't a bad idea - since I-69 is going to need an offset to get around Martinsville, anyway, just start earlier. No Exit for SR 46, though. None whatsoever. And downgrade SR 37 south of Martinsville to secondary status... and just listen to the howls from all the IU fans and alumni when their (weekly) pilgrimages take twice as long. Well, OK, an exit at Gosport... SR 39 north of Martinsville (not south), Gosport (US231), Bloomfield, Loogootee, Jasper....
