For me, the weekend included a double shot of "A Midsummer Night's Dream" at Pike High School (as parents know, such shows trump everything else).
That would have brought plenty of pleasure for one week, but there was also a satisfying trip to Lousville for 2 1/2 productions at the Humana Festival of New American Plays.
Why the half? What was planned as an under-two-hour show expanded during rehearsal and no one let me know. Ah, well. I'm hoping Actors Theatre of Louisville will at least e-mail me the script, so I'll know what happened. The other two productionswhich I'll write about soonwere terrific.
Plus, there was a visit with Indianapolis Zoo's latest residents: two gangs of bats and a photogenic warthog.
And a screening of "Sea Rex 3D" at the IMAX, including a look in the projection room. IMAX will be offering free-with-admission behind-the-scenes tours, by the way. Well worth looking into.
And you?
What did you see, hear, read or otherwise experience this weekend?

I planned to take last weekend "off" from seeing shows and let the rest of my life catch up, but I couldn't resist popping down to Footlite Musicals community theatre after work on Friday to see "The Pajama Game."
I had never seen it before. It is advertised as being about a workplace romance, which it is, but what struck me was how still-relevant and timely this old-fashioned musical is in terms of union-management struggles. Unfortunately, there are still managers today that can' be bothered to say "please" and "thank you" to their employees and that think that they deserve a 7 1/2 cent profit more than their employees do. Unfortunately, there are still employees today that think it's okay to fake an injury and sue the company. (Mind you, I am not speaking from experience in either case, just from reading the news.)
The songs in this show are still very enjoyable, too!
I swooned over the romantic chemistry between the two leads in this particular production. They both have beautiful singing voices, they make an attractive couple, and when they kiss... Well, let's just say that they made me want to be kissed like that, to melt like that, too.
The male lead is Paul Nicely. I'm sorry that I don't have my program handy to tell you who the female lead is. She played "Uma" (sp?) in Footlite's production of "The Producers" last fall.
My friend Adrienne Reiswerg is hilarious in her supporting role, too. (I know I'm biased, but she is.)
There are several other fun aspects to this show as well.
