For an interesting overview of where people move to and where they come from, check out this interactive map at

Marion County people flocked to the Florida coasts in 2008, the year addressed by the map. And a great deal of immigration to Marion County came from around Indiana, but especially from points north—manufacturing country, Detroit area included. Hamilton County reads much the same.

See any surprises?

  • Not Surprised
I personally know of 4 people that have moved into Marion County from Michigan. We think the economy is bad here, it's much worse up there.
  • Salary Changes
Interesting to note that it seems most of the incoming earn less income than those outgoing.
  • No surprise
Those leaving, especially those going to Florida, are likely to be at retirement age and at the peak of their earning years. The ones coming here are likely to be younger and making less.
