Fishers redevelopment draws homegrown Pure Eatery

The owners of Fountain Square’s Pure Eatery are planning to open a second location in downtown Fishers early next year.

Partners Dave Andrus and Jason Jacobi have applied for a liquor license and are working to finalize a lease for 2,800 square feet in Fishers Town Commons, 8235 E. 116th St.

The strip-mall space—between sushi specialist Wild Ginger and Chateau Thomas Winery’s tasting room—most recently housed Hearthstone Bistro, a coffeehouse-turned-lunch-and-dinner-spot that closed in January.

Pure has been serving diners in the Indianapolis cultural district since 2010. Its sandwich- and wrap-heavy menu features locally sourced ingredients assembled in interesting ways, with vegetarian options and an impressive array of adult beverages.

Andrus, who recently moved to Fishers with his wife Courtney and their young daughters Ella and Emerson, said Pure is ready to grow along with the suburban downtown, which is being redeveloped.

“There’s definitely room for more stuff up there,” he said. “We see that as a hot spot.”

They expect the Fishers menu to include more entrees, given the more residential nature of the community, and Andrus said the restaurant also will be family-friendly.

Like the Fountain Square location, the suburban outpost likely will feature work from local artists, he said—extending the “go local” philosophy beyond the kitchen.

Andrus also owns Pearl Street Pizzeria & Pub in downtown Indianapolis.

In other retail news north of 96th Street:

Gumbo A Go Go is expected to take 1,300 square feet of space just down the street from Pure in Fishers Town Center, 8395 E. 116th St. The Cajun-Creole restaurant is moving north from a previous location on 86th Street in Indianapolis. Urban Spoon says the restaurant is closed temporarily while it relocates.

Wolfies Grill, a local woodsy-themed sports bar chain with locations in Carmel, Noblesville and Fishers, is planning a new restaurant in Westfield. Owner Scott Wolf has applied for a liquor license for a location at 137 E. Main St., a former bank branch in the heart of the growing city.

— Ball State favorite Greek’s Pizzeria has opened a second Carmel location in the Village of West Clay, at 12703 Meetinghouse Road. The franchise also has an outlet at 120 E. Main St. in addition to restaurants in Fishers, Noblesville and Zionsville (oh yeah, and Indianapolis).  A Westfield eatery also is in the works.

— Build-your-own pizza chain Blaze Pizza has opened at 12697 N. Pennsylvania St. in Carmel. The Pasadena, Calif.-based franchise lets customers choose their toppings as they walk down the serving line, then sends the pizzas to an open-flame oven where the thin-crust pies are baked in less than 3 minutes. Blaze has another location near IUPUI in Indianapolis.

  • Yay, Pure!
I am so thrilled by the news of Pure Eatery. I love their breakfast tacos but rarely make it down to Fountain Square. Excited to welcome them to the neighborhood! We need a regular spot!

  5. Problem: most of the people responding to this article don't know about this service AT ALL! Why? Lack of awareness. This isn't IndyGo. This is CIRTA: might as well be the mattress company because they are asleep at the wheel - something like 3 directors over the last year? Playing with federal grant money is great! This "region" wants commuter rail service, has spent MILLIONS on Transportation studies yet can't even support a commuter bus line? This is largely for suburban riders to get to downtown - not for "service people to work in our hotels and restaurants" ! Get your head out of your backside!! These are professionals, students etc. that don't want to fight traffic, save some money on parking, gas, stress.... if CIRTA would put their federal money into widely promoting the sevive to Greenwood, Fishers & Carmel instead of finding directors and studies - this would be a successful service. Our family uses(d) it daily for the last several years - but the recent uncertainty & now unreliability due to cuts from Carmel has been a problem. Now, costs us an additional $350/month for gas & parking ( $4200/year) plus vehicle wear, service, environmental impact ... YES - this REGION needs this this type of service in order to keep growing and getting the people it needs to fill skilled positions in downtown Indianapolis. Think outside of your own car !!!
