Fishers-based OfficeWorks is purchasing the assets of Columbus, Ohio-based Continental Office Environments’ Indianapolis location on East 33rd Street.

Terms of the deal, announced by the two companies this week, were not disclosed. The transaction should be completed by mid-February.

The companies, which sell office furniture and design office space, competed as dealers for high-end Herman Miller furniture.

“In the past several months COE has realized, along with OfficeWorks, that Indianapolis would be best served with only one Herman Miller dealer,” Continental Office CEO Ira Sharfin said in a prepared statement. “After extensive conversations with OfficeWorks, we mutually decided that the best solution was for COE and OfficeWorks to integrate operations through a sale.”

Continental Office has 17 employees at its Indianapolis location, many of which will join OfficeWorks, Sharfin said.

Continental Office, which opened its Indianapolis office in 2006, is not renewing its lease at 9202 E. 33rd St., he said.

OfficeWorks, a minority-owned business operated by Tom O’Neil, has 50 employees.

Continental Office has 220 employees in Ohio and Pennsylvania.
