Should we show restraint toward mandating seat belts?
A state education official says it would cost too much ($160 million) to mandate installation of seat belts in Indiana's 16,000 school buses. What's your perspective?
Stick with the status quo. Despite two recent fatalities, school buses are a very safe mode of travel and deaths to riders
are extremely rare. [66 votes] (54%)
The state should devote lottery funds and/or some of the $320 million in recently discovered corporate tax collections to
outfitting school buses with seat belts. [40 votes] (33%)
Seat belts should be mandated, and local school districts should absorb the cost. [16 votes] (13%)
