Two new retail concepts are hoping to cash in by pairing their offerings with fresh-brewed coffee.

Classic Cleaners and
Coffee Express IndyClassic Cleaners & Coffee Express opened this week at the northeast corner of College Avenue and 49th Street. The shop uses an eco-friendly, no-odor cleaning solution, meaning the only aroma in the shop comes from the fresh-brewed organic Copper Moon coffees. The shop, which also features traditional laundry equipment, is the 18th in central Indiana for the homegrown Classic chain.

Pearings IndyPearings Frozen Yogurt & Beyond has inked a deal to open at the northwest corner of Washington and Meridian streets between T-Mobile and Rock Bottom Restaurant and Brewery. The shop will feature frozen yogurt and a "PEARings" bar that varies depending on the time of day (morning offerings to include Greek yogurt, oatmeal and crepes). Brewed coffee, an espresso bar, smoothies and juices will be available all day. Owner Matthew Meinema's goal is to franchise the concept.

Elsewhere:

  • Charlie & Barney's, the homegrown chili specialist, has closed its outpost in the first floor of PNC Center between Subway and Pizza Di Tito. Charlie & Barney's continues to operate its flagship restaurant at 225 E. Ohio St.
  • Pandora, the Danish jewelry company, plans to open a store at The Fashion Mall at Keystone. The shop is taking 750 square feet. Pandora already has a store at Castleton Square Mall and sells its wares at several jewelry stores.
  • Noble Roman's plans to open a standalone take-and-bake shop at the southeast corner of 96th Street and Michigan Road. The concept is taking 1,400 square feet in a center that also includes Subway and Honey Baked Ham.
  • Jack in the Box has opened its newest Indianapolis-area store along 38th Street between High School and Moller roads, its sixth in the local market.

  • Classic Cleaners
We live very close to 49th and College, and while we are always glad to see anything new opening on that corner, another dry cleaners was probably not the best option. We already have three within walking distance. I do realize it's a bit of a different concept and I truly hope it makes it. Just seems like an odd choice.
  • Pearings Website?
I was wondering if anyone has been able to find the Pearings website... I would love to learn more about the concept but am unable to find any info outside of this post. Thanks for your help!
  • Pearings
Looks like their website will be at PearingsYogurt.com, though it is not live yet.
  • Coffee? yes, please
Susan, the fact that one of those dry cleaners has lost buttons on everything I've ever taken to them (I haven't tried the cleaners closest to Classic), coupled with the eco-friendly factor and the coffee, is certainly enough to make me switch. Good luck to Classic Cleaners!

  5. Problem: most of the people responding to this article don't know about this service AT ALL! Why? Lack of awareness. This isn't IndyGo. This is CIRTA: might as well be the mattress company because they are asleep at the wheel - something like 3 directors over the last year? Playing with federal grant money is great! This "region" wants commuter rail service, has spent MILLIONS on Transportation studies yet can't even support a commuter bus line? This is largely for suburban riders to get to downtown - not for "service people to work in our hotels and restaurants" ! Get your head out of your backside!! These are professionals, students etc. that don't want to fight traffic, save some money on parking, gas, stress.... if CIRTA would put their federal money into widely promoting the sevive to Greenwood, Fishers & Carmel instead of finding directors and studies - this would be a successful service. Our family uses(d) it daily for the last several years - but the recent uncertainty & now unreliability due to cuts from Carmel has been a problem. Now, costs us an additional $350/month for gas & parking ( $4200/year) plus vehicle wear, service, environmental impact ... YES - this REGION needs this this type of service in order to keep growing and getting the people it needs to fill skilled positions in downtown Indianapolis. Think outside of your own car !!!
