[In response to Teresa Meredith’s Jan. 10 column in Forefront] I would like to know, if collective bargaining has all of those benefits, why are our public schools performing so badly that a great percentage of the students do not graduate?

If teachers are truly professionals, then they will recognize that tenure does not necessarily mean that the teacher is the best for the students. Why can’t they recognize that the end result is a better education system that primarily benefits the students and increases the graduation rate?

Meredith makes a list of what collective bargaining offers without any substantial proof to support any of these reasons.
