Del TacoLook out, Taco Bell. California-based Del Taco, the country's No. 2 taco chain, is planning to open 16 new restaurants in Indianapolis. The chain, which already has about 500 restaurants in 14 states, says it's looking for four or five local franchise partners for its Hoosier debut. Besides tacos, burritos and quesadillas, Del Taco serves burgers, fries and shakes. Anyone tried them?
  • Never tried them, but even though I'm not a big fast food eater, I would love if this means Jack-in-the-Box, Fatburger, and other west coast restaurants are not too far behind!

Yes, yes, I can already hear the complaints about more chains, but oh well, whining on a message board isn't going to change anything.
  • From Indy but living in Los Angeles now....... Del Taco is out here and it is pretty darned good! Suffice it to say that once you try a Del Taco Chicken Soft Taco (my favorite menu item), you will never want to eat at Taco Bell again. The place uses real meat, like chicken that is actally grilled over an open fire rather than the boil-in-a-bag crap Taco Bell uses. Give it a try and I bet you'll be changing.
  • ugh, more chains. indy just cant get enough.
  • I live in Tucson. We have two of those here in Tucson and I really love their beef burrito!! It's a better alternative than Taco Bell in my opinion! Of course fast food isn't healthy, but once or twice a month isn't going to hurt!
  • It's alright, but I'd be impressed if we got an In-N-Out Burger. I know there's no chance of that happening, but it would make it that much more impressive.
  • there good i wish we would get a jack in the box they do own qudoba so maybe jack in the box will be next
  • OH HECK YA! Love Del Taco! mmm french fries with my mexican food! Now we just need In-n-out!

jack in the box is AWFUL
  • We need a whataburger!!!!
  • Chains in and of themselves are not a bad thing. Why complain when a new chain comes to town? If local entrepenuers want to offer an option, good for them... and I hope that they succeed.
  • boo....what we need is 1. powers hamburgers (from ft. wayne) and 2. coney island (from ft. wayne). both indiana classics (well, at least in northeast indiana) and have been around for generations. i'd rather have the effort spent to bring them both to indy than another out of state chain. but, as marshall says, chains aren't always that bad. i just get sick of chain chain chain...i will say, fatburger is pretty sweet...
  • mmmmmmm fatburger fatburger, pollo loco, and a grand lux cafe and id be very happy
  • any idea where dunkin donuts is going to set up shop downtown?
  • We need a Blake's Lotaburger... If you've never been to New Mexico, you probably have no idea what I'm talking about. I grew up in NM, and Lotaburger was always a treat for us.
  • The taco chain we don't have (and that is so much better than Del Taco) is Taco Bueno! All over the south and southwest -- oh, so good.
  • RUBIO'S! Boy do I miss their fish tacos!

Re: Del Taco, when I lived in San Diego, I only went there occasionally, but never went to Taco Bell. I will be happy to see them here.
  • This made my day. I grew up in Orange County and have missed Del Taco dearly since I moved here. I can't wait to eat their Chicken Soft Tacos again!
  • I lived in SoCal for years - am delighted to see Del Taco coming here - way better than Taco Bell! Now to get El Pollo Loco to Indy....
  • How about Taco Cabana, they have one in Ft Wayne (why I don't know) and the rest are in Texas, more specifically San Antonio area.

Great mexican fast food, lots of choices with different salsas plus they serve Margaritas!
  • I second the Whataburger! How about a Fuddruckers?!
  • Like Del Taco - Love Taco Bueno!

    Where are Der Weinerschnitzel's????

(can I say steel rope???) out of Okla/Texas called Del Rancho. Burgers, fries, onion rings, and the greatest Chicken Fried Steaks!!
  • LFrank, you might be too young to remember when we had multiple Fuddruckers in Indy. One was on 82nd St. in the middle of Castleton, and there was one somewhere on East Washington near 465.
  • Oh, man, I loved Del Rancho. Haven't had a good chicken fried steak since I moved up here.
  • That wasn't Fuddrucker's, that was Flakey Jake's. Same concept though... when Jake's left around 10 years ago, they were turned into Tony Roma and Perkins.
  • Mmmmm, Flakey Jakes. That place was good.
  • Lottaburger and Whataburger were pretty good when I lived in NM...I will take Del Taco over Taco Bell any day. I never set foot in Taco Bell when I lived in the OC...Del Taco is much better.
  • What happened to the Elephant Bar and Restaurant we were supposed to get on the northside?

Haven't seen anything on it lately. Has it been called off?
  • Mark: I believe the Elephant Bar deal fell through, at Castleton. Stir Crazy is going in, though.
  • Speaking of old school Indy restaurants, I wish we still had Rax. I second that we need an In N Out burger.
  • Eric-

If you are craving RAX, they still have a location in DT Anderson.
Dell Taco is a washed out version of tacos...Real tacos dont use cheese, lettuce or sour cream. Go try those West Coast Tacos, they're the real thing!

  3. Bravo! Someone else that is willing to speak the truth! Bravo!_____NBCSN is available in almost 2 MILLION more homes than just a few years ago, but Indycar STILL gets less total viewers than it did just a few years ago when NBC took over Versus. Attendance and ratings cratered with the end of season races (just when the title battle got "interesting" HAH!__________And now...new race in Basilia, where Miles celebrated the "rich history" of Indycar racing there. 5. Problem: most of the people responding to this article don't know about this service AT ALL! Why? Lack of awareness. This isn't IndyGo. This is CIRTA: might as well be the mattress company because they are asleep at the wheel - something like 3 directors over the last year? Playing with federal grant money is great! This "region" wants commuter rail service, has spent MILLIONS on Transportation studies yet can't even support a commuter bus line? This is largely for suburban riders to get to downtown - not for "service people to work in our hotels and restaurants" ! Get your head out of your backside!! These are professionals, students etc. that don't want to fight traffic, save some money on parking, gas, stress.... if CIRTA would put their federal money into widely promoting the sevive to Greenwood, Fishers & Carmel instead of finding directors and studies - this would be a successful service. Our family uses(d) it daily for the last several years - but the recent uncertainty & now unreliability due to cuts from Carmel has been a problem. Now, costs us an additional $350/month for gas & parking ( $4200/year) plus vehicle wear, service, environmental impact ... YES - this REGION needs this this type of service in order to keep growing and getting the people it needs to fill skilled positions in downtown Indianapolis. Think outside of your own car !!!
