Parkview Health, a hospital system headquartered in Fort Wayne, has bought naming rights to the city’s new $30 million minor-league baseball stadium.

Payments made under the 10-year, $3 million deal will be split between the city and team owner Hardball Capital, with the city planning to spend its share on stadium capital improvements.

The not-for-profit hospital plans to offer blood screenings and provide other health information at the downtown stadium. At the same time, it will try to minimize unhealthy foods from being sold – while continuing to peddle such traditional fare as nachos and beer.

“We will have some unhealthy food,” Hardball CEO Jason Freier told The Journal Gazette of Fort Wayne.

A hospital executive said the naming rights are part of helping the stadium, and ultimately the downtown, succeed.

Parkview Field is part of a downtown revitalization project called Harrison Square.

The Class A minor league team, called the Wizards, anticipates opening its 2009 season in the new facility.
